Is it impossible to get any stronger?

So I've been playing since the beta, and while it started off simple this game is really starting to kick my ass in terms of difficult and it feels somehow even more hopeless to proceed than in Brave Frontier.

My main team consists of:

-Terra 5* (192 Mag)

  • Hayate 5* (266 Atk)

  • Cecil 5* (222 Atk)

  • Golbez 5* (155 Mag)

I don't get how every post seems to have a Tellah with 300+ and I can't even break 200 with any of my mages. And on top of that all the best weapons and equips are usually event exclusive so without a high account level (I'm Rank 39) I don't have enough Energy or good enough units to even grind effectively enough so I'm screwed before the event is over.

Is there even any point without having Lightning or using a third party app to cheat grind Trust Mastery for you because it's extremely discouraging at this point...

Um...

I've been playing since July, completely F2P, and am Rank 66. I don't have Lightning, I don't use macros to TMR farm. Heck, I started an alt account for kicks a month and a half ago using only Friend Point units and got to Rank 25 before Bluestacks stopped working due to an update a couple weeks back. Beta was, what, May? So you have at least a month, maybe two, on me.

I do have an advantage in that I can play during downtime and breaks at work, I guess. And my personality encourages me to try and maximize efficiency; finding what weapons and units work best, what zones deliver the greatest rewards for time/NRG spent, etc. I've tried to do my part to pass along the result of my research here. I wrote a guide about recommendations to get free Lapis, for example.

But your low Rank and unit stats after more than 5 months in the game leads me to think you only log in infrequently? Or maybe just spend 10 minutes a day running Vortex?

  • How much time do you play per day?

  • What are you spending your NRG on?

  • Are you doing daily pulls?

  • Have you completed the storyline?

  • Have you maxed your espers?

  • What other units do you have?

I'm inclined to agree with this. How can you have been playing since the Beta and be wondering how to maximize your team and you're only 39? Have you even done any of the events? Do you pull at all? My team consists of mostly 3* bases, it's not like it's difficult to be effective unless you literally don't play the game for more than a few minutes every day.

I work 9-5 Monday through Friday and I can't play during work outside my lunch hour but I do play mobile games often. Most I've played is 2 and a half years of Puzzle & Dragons and nearly 2 years of Brave Frontier.

To answer

• It changes depending on how tired I am from work but at least an hour of play minimum.

• I'm usually caught up to the story as soon as the new chapters are out like I am right now, last thing I did was get Diabolos.

• I saved up a ton of Lapis and Summon Tickets to try and get Lightning but no dice so I started saving up again, not like there's much point in pulling even unless you have her or something that'll be 6* anyway.

• Story is complete as far as I remember.

• Only one close to being max is Ifrit at lvl 38. Most of my espers are 2* except Ramuh and Diabolos but the only time you can really level them is during Chamber of Crystals so I have to wait for that to come back again.

• None of my other units are Lightning, so naturally the rest don't even matter. Only notable ones I can think of are Ludmille, Charlotte, Locke, the girl from FFT that can't equip weapons and Gaffgrion(?)

Well, a couple things, there's a team building thread where people who are better than the majority of us, can help you. But for what it matters, what all units do you have?

Do you have all the good mage gear? Tellah naturally has a much higher MAG than Terra and certainly higher than Golbez.

With mages though, you kinda really want 3 so you can benefit from the chaining the most. You also need support like Cecil's Focus and maybe a way to reduce SPR or Resist (Deshell and Imperil). It's a combination of things that make a team good. The units certainly help, but they are not the end all be all.

As for farming, the company said themselves they don't care about macro'ing. But with an iphone, if you have one, it's not a third party app. It's built into the phone.

I'm strong because of what I own. I'm weak because I'm stubborn :) I have specific units I want to use for various reasons. Not because they are good lol. I mean, why am I using Golbez when Kefka is head and shoulders better? Because I like him. He's not the best, but he's what I choose.

I can make strategies. I can take what someone has done and make it better. I've played Magic since 1995, lol. I'm no stranger to strategic thinking.

But I'm stubborn lol. I can't wait till I'm an old guy cussing at kids for being on my lawn and their new fangled toys.

since beta and only 39? hmmm , i guess u just log in for the dailies ?

those 300+ mages have the 10% mag x3/4 from a chest , check wiki for it .

It's actually less about the +10% mag, and more about the earrings from town of kolts.

go through these lists and make sure you have all the best items that are not TMs or event gear. They will either be from quests, from chests in explorations/towns or crafted or possibly from the colosseum. In maranda coast there is a silver chest with the Mag +10% recipe, get that and make lots of those and give them to your mages.

I think my Terra is at like 297 MAG or so, and she's my third mage in line. Kefka gets the best gear (390) and Tellah is next (319).

I could check, but she's not currently in my mage party. (I swap between her and Kuja depending on what element I need and was most recently fighting machines in COL).

Hope it doesn't sound like I'm bragging, just saying you can get at/near/above 300 on your third best geared mage - depending on who they are. Could probably have Golbez around 300 or so if you gave him the best gear he's able to equip. Not certain because of his crappy selection. I'd at least be shocked if he caps at under 280 with non-TMR gear.

**EDIT:**Had to swap to Fire based, Terra is at 301 MAG.

My Terra has 353mag and I'm f2p. Hoping to reach ~370 tomorrow.

Where are you in the story? Do you have any of the exclusive items from the events?

I have 300+ MAG on my Terra even with Enhancer equip and no Earrings.

Non-TMR ways to boost MAG are found through Rods, Hats, Robes (though there is a Cloth equip with +10) Hero Rings/Earrings, and the +10% MAG materia.

ATK can be boosted from Tiger Mask, Green Beret, and Black Belt Gi.

Do not forget the Hyper Wrists or Hero Rings for atk.

Also, Golbez and terra can use light shields, and the Stellar Shield, although it's no longer obitainable.

I am f2p haven't grinded a single tmr yet. I Have been playing since release.. I am up to rank 57.. I got as much free lapis as I could manage.. I haven't had much luck with Physical Attackers on my draws (Firion and Bartz being the best) my mage team I have gotten just about all the top mages (exdeath, kefka, terra, tellah, kuja, Celes) on my mage team my magic is ratings are 233 / 251/ 285/ 300 / 378 and I am missing 3 mag+10%.. I have been able to clear all content except the Babel Pro (because I didn't have the desire) just keep doing the 250 draw and eventually you will have a good team!

There's entirely a point going forward, HOWEVER, it is entirely up to you. It sounds as though this game may be one of many forms of entertainment that you're juggling. Based on your rank and duration that you've played, I would say this game has not been one of your entertainment priority - and that's fine.

You can entirely turn your parties around if you invest some time, research, discussion, and manage your expectations. You don't need to have the best of everything to succeed, it just makes things easier / less risky / take less time.

Try placing 2 hero rings, either shiva or ramuh (espers leveled up and SP used)and equip them with 4 x Mag10% should already greatly help with your mage reaching 300.

From what it looks like, you haven't been grinding the right things. Assuming your Terra has ramuh, hero rings, the tillith rod, and 4x 10% mag, you should easily be able to clear 250 mag

Events don't get you strong teams, they reinforce the ones you have. At your stage you should be trying for all the free lapis you can, and doing daily pulls.

I am neither a whale nor a macro guy (f2p). Been playing for almost 3 months. Level 57 356 mag tellahcan get kuja higher, but no point really. Do your dailies (quests and pulls) even if you only have five minutes while on the john, run some vortex stuff so you don't waste energy so many days, I will play in 4 10-15 minute chunks, just always running high energy events I have time for.

simplest: add Lightning friends simple no.2: 10+1 pull and pray to RNGeezus sorta simple: get better equipment from Collo not simple: grind TM from your Cecil and Terra

I am F2P as well and at rank 46 or something like that. If you use your energy wisely and just do the events, get items, and focus on achievements and quests you can get the gear you need. Look at the exvius wiki and find the items you need to get your guys to a higher attack and magic. Create a balanced team and you can do it. Maybe you just need to research more.

F2P and my Tellah is 371. When I deck out Kefka he is 383.

You have to do the events if you want to keep up and remain F2P. You have to collect Star Quartz for the earrings and mag 10%.

You need better heroes. Have you considered re-rolling? or putting more lapis into banner pulls?

I've been playing 36 days and am F2P, Rank 40. I've got max'd 5* Kefka, Exdeath, Bartz, Fina, Charlotte and Amarant, and am working on CoD, Agrias, and 6* Cecil.

Do you do the daily pull? Even as a f2p you should have enough lapis for that at the moment given all the giveaways.

Pick up the mag+10% recipe from the silver chest in Miranda Coast and craft loads to slap onto your mages.

Ditto the same for other craftable materia like Def+10%.

Do all the events for limited time equipment that will make your life a lot easier, even if you have to stick to int level for a bit.

That's my advice as a relatively new player still making my way up.
