Master of Cues
I am the instrument of light-
The lamp of actor's night.
Witness! Behold! I illuminate.
And with but buttons extricate
Vision from void.
Against the stage is my radiance splayed
By beacons, torches, the fingers of god arrayed!
The unseen handed by which all are guided.
And with legerdemain is silence righted:
Light and sound alloyed.
Now through the speakers comes a lilting wail,
Tendrils of aural ail
That grasp the stage and shape to sorrow's province.
They do so with my countenance.
But be now destroyed!
Play those final tricks of waning gloom
As the curtain call spells my doom.
The audience cheers; they clap with glee
Oh, they do not clap for me.
I leave the booth, of power devoid.
