Days off

Question

Hey everyone. So as a small streamer, I'm still trying to figure out my ideal schedule. I work full time along with streaming. I started out doing six 6 hours streams a week, quickly realized that was too much. So I cut down to 6 4 hour streams a week. And it was still too much haha. So I decided on taking a second day off during the week. My question for you all is if you happen to take two days off from streaming, do you find its better in terms of viewer retention to take them in a row or separately through out the week?

When I was able to keep a set schedule, I just had it posted on my info panel. I would update it at the beginning of each week based on my personal/work schedule availability.

I would always start at roughly the same time, but the day off would rotate each week. I'm not sure if them being back to back would affect it much. As long as your viewers know when they can expect your next stream, you should be good.

Also... Don't let yourself get burnt out. As a viewer myself, I'd rather watch a nice energy level and well rested streamer less frequently a week, as opposed to one that's tired every day of the week.

I think the trouble is if your issue is you're getting home from a day at work and then finding you're struggling to put in 6 or 4 hours on Twitch afterwards... which is perfectly OK and understandable btw... then is taking two days off really going to fix that? I'm not sure it will. Your daily tiredness levels will still be the same. That's not much escaping that.

I would sit down and realistically work out how many hours you can put in after work. If 4 is too many.. go with 3.5 or 3 or even 2. Find what works. And then build your schedule around that with perhaps longer streams on the days you're not working your main job and have more energy and free time.

Just my 2c worth as a viewer. From what I've seen most successful streamers get that 24 hour cycle balance just right. And that works both ways. It helps them stream without burning out too much and it helps viewers know when they're going to be around.

You're completely missing the question. I've found a good balance of work and streaming now. My only question is if people find that having two days off in a row hurts viewer retention or not.

More time online = better chance of being found by the audience you're looking for. Work the time that you can manage, and if you want days off, make them consistent (same days, same times).

From my experience, streaming during regular off-days of other streamers is the easiest way to gain viewers. I stream after work (7pm - 2am) mon-thu and spend every other weekend with my ldr gf. When she's not over, I'd stream Friday night (6pm to 3am), while everyones out partying and I'd get a huge amount of viewers. Also, Saturday and Sunday 9am to midnight would give a ton of viewers as well. Especially Sunday, as it's a common day off for most streamers.

Find what works. I stream 5 days a week for 4 hours. I split my days off to mon/friday. Seems to work fine for me. And prevents me from getting burnt out. I recommend it.
