18 month Update: My husband killed himself

update

Some of you may remember me. I lost my husband to suicide in May of last year and lurk a lot, post a little.

I wanted to share some happy updates. I've been reflecting a lot lately on where I've been and all that's happened since then. The big one being last Friday, I got the keys to my first home <3. It was a mixed bag of emotions. I felt extremely proud of being able to buy a house on my own for me and my daughter but also bittersweet that I was moving on in such a big way.

We've also conquered some behavioral stuff lately with the help of play therapy (highly recommend if you can afford it/insurance covers it). We were having twice daily biting a few months back with no sign of slowing down and she's done with that for the time being it seems :) We also got her potty trained except for naps and bedtime. It's also been hugely helpful for helping her work through understanding what it means that daddy died and all of the emotional fallout and processing that continues to come with her constant regrieving.

AAAND! The weight has slowly been coming off and I'm the lightest I've been since before she was born nearly 3 years ago.

It's not been easy. There have been a lot of tears, a lot of heartache, a lot of therapy, a lot of anger and resentment but I'm in a good place today.

Thanks for letting me share <3

What a wonderful update! You took an unimaginably shitty situation and not just dealt with it, but pushed beyond it for yourself and your daughter. You're freaking amazing. Keep doing what you're doing, and please keep us updated on all of it!

Thank you for your kind words. And everyone else's as well. Seeing her little face light up as she saw her room and got to run around in the backyard (in the dark and it was totally muddy mind you haha) made it all worth it <3.

Looking forward to many happy memories being made there.

I was just thinking of you yesterday. <3 I'm glad that some things are going well for you, you've worked very hard to come to where you are in the aftermath of such a horrible tragedy.

I remember when you made the post about your hisband's suicide. I can't believe it's been 18 months. It sounds like you are handling things so well, considering your tragic loss. Keep on keeping on, mama.
