I'm actually super confused. It looked like you double jumped into the dsmash, did you not jump into it, or did you somehow get your jump back?
I double jumped into Yoshi's D-Tilt and was forced to recover with my Up-B. Yoshi grabbed ledge early and waited for what he thought was a guaranteed edgehog, since I already burned my double jump and would've had to pass by the ledge in order to make it back from that distance. However, his intangibility ran out before I got there, so I was able to footstool off of Yoshi while he was hanging onto the ledge. Every character that can act after their Up-B has access to footstools afterwards, and Sonic is no exception. Remember to perform a ledge roll or getup to get your intangibility back when edgeguarding a character that can do this!
Look at Fudgepop's comment.
Corners in PM have weird properties sometimes. I'm sure shockbound will tell us why
did he not just footstool him?
That's what happened

Smartest play of the year right here, freaked out when I saw this on stream
This is one of the best things I have ever seen. I'm a Sonic main, myself.
You better start incorporating this into your play, or I will be disappointed
Oh, I will.
btw Shockbound, why did you bair after springing?
After using Up-B, Sonic can only access a portion of his aerial drift for as long as he remains in Up-B's animation. I use a B-Air as soon as possible after starting the Up-B so that I can get out of that animation sooner, allowing me to get my full drift back while I rise upwards. This maximizes the horizontal distance Sonic can travel after using Up-B, which greatly extends the overall distance on his recovery.
You can do this with any of Sonic's aerials, but the reason why I always opt to use B-Air for recovery over his other aerials is because it has the shortest animation and the earliest IASA. You won't grab ledges if you're still in the animation of an aerial, even if you've reached the frame where the move can be interrupted into another action. B-Air and N-Air have the same IASA of 34, but B-Air's total animation time lasts for 37 frames while N-Air's lasts for 49 frames, so that's a difference of 12 whole frames where you wouldn't be able to grab the ledge.
It's just strictly better to use B-Air in every circumstance where you aren't trying to hit somebody with your aerial after your Up-B. F-Air has an IASA of 38 (4 frames worse than B-Air) and an animation time of 40 (3 frames worse than B-Air), and yet I still see a lot of Sonics trying to use it for recovery. Don't be fooled; just do B-Air!
I believe some Sonics use Fair because they don't use c-stick.
TIL You can footstool jump off of a ledgehogger.
Great.
Man I didn't even notice the highlight of this gif until I came to the comments. That was genius though.

##-DUDE THAT WAS SO SMART!!- O.O
For those that don't understand what happened, I think Shockbound had the brilliant idea to footstool Yoshi while he was on the ledge. However, because the footstool animation only occurs when the character isn't performing an action (or on ledge), it appears as if Shockbound just gained another jump outta nowhere.
This actually sounds like a great last resort when recovering (if they don't roll away) -- Great stuff! :D
Snake, G&W, Lucario, and any character that can act after their Up-B can do this as well. The character you're footstooling off of has to lose their intangibility for this to work, however. Most people I play against have learned to roll up when I pass by them after using Up-B, but I still press the taunt button as I go by just in case they forget. It's definitely saved me a handful of stocks here and there.
I do this a lot as Yoshi as well, people often try to hold ledge and I can just hop over them. Good stuff, I was going to try to keep this a secret a bit longer but here we are.
MY MIND HAS BEEN FUCKING BLOWN. I'll definitely have to incorporate this more when i'm forced to up b without a jump.
Sadly I think you're right and that just rolling onto the stage defeats this. Still, it's great to have this tool at my disposal
