Because new years was on a Sunday this year, the holiday is observed on the Monday following. That is why there has been no update most likely.

Federal holidays only resort in mandatory days off for federal employees. Valve isn't a government employer so they don't have to take any time off, they just have the option.
And I would expect Valve to give it off.
No chance. For these exact reasons. They are no doubt working on this, but if they had no one in, they would be looking at a 72 hour outage vs 24 hours now.
Valve isn't apart of the US government... federal holidays don't apply unless they choose to have one.
And companies as big as valve don't send EVERYONE on holiday leave. They handle thousands of transactions a day. Someone is there in the office or at least on call.

They offer a 24/7 service to millions of players I don't see how this applies. You might have some people on vacation but seriously you can't pay someone a little extra to come in and look at what the problem is?
