Passthrough successful, networking not so much (Win10 Guest)

Hello,

I am running libvirt 2.4.0, virt-manager 1.4.0 and VFIO for my GPU passthrough setup on Manjaro running on kernel 4.4.39-1. I am having a bit of an issue getting clarification on the recommended setup for bridging my VM connection over my wireless adapter (ethernet is acting kind of weird on Manjaro). I have followed a few guides, but a lot of them don't really explain what configurations they're editing to bridge the connections and the setup process in my version of virt-manager for the ethernet adapter. I've tried both the passthrough and bridge option on the adapter itself and set the guest IP to match the LAN IP scheme and that did not help. Are there any current/up to date guides on how to accomplish this? Is there also VFIO drivers that are needed on the guest (like VirtualBox guest additions and VMWare Tools)?

I have GPU passthrough working, but it's kind of useless without networking functionality.

For wireless network adapter bridge, see my answer on another thread. Should hopefully be of help :)

If you're using the virtio network driver you need to install the virtio drivers on the guest.

If you want bridge mode, you also need to define a virtual network. The default 'default' network is NAT mode. Like so:

virsh # net-list --all
 Name                 State      Autostart     Persistent
----------------------------------------------------------
 default              active     yes           yes
 macvtap-net          active     yes           yes

virsh # net-dumpxml macvtap-net
<network>
  <name>macvtap-net</name>
  <uuid>b52b935e-5016-42d0-a86e-40c92949500b</uuid>
  <forward dev='enp0s31f6' mode='bridge'>
    <interface dev='enp0s31f6'/>
  </forward>
</network>

virsh #

This is a pretty good primer for virtual networking: https://wiki.libvirt.org/page/VirtualNetworking

Thank you, this worked. I didn't realize you had to create the adapter for the host. I guess it's different with stuff like VMWare and Virtualbox because those are already created for you during the install. The default one kept showing up as inactive, but even in the virtsh command shell, it wouldn't show any devices in net-list --all.

I ended up just using NAT.
