[PSA] A Poké Pelago Glitch guide

analysis

Hello! Since a lot of people seem to not know about it, here's a guide to the recently-discovered Poké Pelago Glitch!

What is Pelago Glitch?

Pelago Glitch is known by a few different names: Y2K glitch, February 1st glitch, time travel glitch, etc. In short, this glitch allows you to immediately finish all Poké Pelago activities.

How do you perform Pelago Glitch?

  1. Set up Poké Pelago how you want it. Eggs in hot springs, berries planted in fields, cave being searched, et cetera.
  2. Save your game.
  3. Exit to the home menu.
  4. Go into System Settings.
  5. Under Other Settings, go to Date & Time. Set the date to January 31st, then set the time to 23:59.
  6. Reload Pokemon Sun/Moon.
  7. When the clock ticks over to midnight on February 1st (you can watch it easily by clicking Save and waiting for the time to tick to 0:00), enter Poké Pelago.
  8. If performed correctly, all activities in Poké Pelago should be complete!

Note that changing the 3DS clock locks you out of certain things, such as your Festival Plaza shops, for a while.

What are some applications for Pelago Glitch?

Well, let's go island-by-island.

Isle Abeens will let you collect beans to your heart's content, which is particularly useful if you haven't fully developed Poké Pelago yet. You'll also find wild Pokémon here, which can be nice because the game will tell you their natures.

Isle Aplenny will let you farm as many berries as you like. If you don't have like a billion Sitrus and Leppa berries already for some reason, well, now you can get on that! It's probably also a good idea to stock up on EV-reducing berries, just in case.

Isle Aphun can also be farmed quickly with this method. This lets you get shards to trade in for Bottle Caps, evolution stones, money, and Gold Bottle Caps.

Isle Evelup is particularly useful. Pelago Glitch with Isle Evelup is usually the fastest way to EV train in a stat, especially if you haven't gotten your power items yet. It's also a decently fast way of leveling up Pokémon. I'm not sure it's worth using for level grinding to 100, though, since you lose out on Rare Kitchens for the duration of the glitch. Maybe if you have to grind many Pokémon at once?

Isle Avue is probably the most time-saving overall, however. Performing the Pelago Glitch makes all eggs in Isle Avue ready to hatch. This saves you a ton of running around, especially on Pokémon with high egg step counts, such as Bagon. You still have to sit through the animation for all 18 eggs, though, so it might be good to have something outside the game to do while going through all those. Additionally, performing the glitch will drain 'mons of their happiness if left in the hot spring, which might be useful if you're looking to use Frustration.

And that's all I've got for you. Questions?

What a boon. I hadn't known about this until just now, so thank you! I have a VGC tournament coming up and I'm running out of time to Bottle Cap farm for my Tapus and UBs.

I have a feeling once Nintendo gets word of this glitch, they will fix it with the next released patch because dang, pretty big deal. Solid find.

For the record, I didn't discover the glitch. I'm not entirely clear on who did, but because of the nature of the glitch (it happens automatically when the internal clock ticks over; and it was discovered on February 1st as far as I know), I'm willing to bet several people accidentally discovered it simultaneously.

Depending on whether you have homebrew (A9LH and Luma3DS) or not, there's a slightly more technical method to change the inner clock of the 3DS, but it's not well known. It involves using a developer app to change the time so that the game won't see offsets by changing the time in the System Settings.

I posted an in-depth guide on it as I heard of this glitch and how people were exploiting it, so I made a guide which covers almost everything timegate-related in Sun and Moon, including Festival Plaza (the glitch does not cover Festival Plaza). Nintendo was eventually going to patch this so I wanted a back-up guide that was un-patchable.

Here's a guide if anyone's interested.

This is a awesome. Just levelled my tapus from 60 to 100. One level per reset. Took about an hour probably! Really handy, thank you.

LifeSmashOP•

Thank YOU for commenting about that! That was probably the thing I was least sure about in my guide.

Using the exp drink in pelago? That's a great idea!!
EDIT: takes a lvl 1 poke to 30 and a 60 to 62 with 99 sessions using an exp drink. Really awesome for getting to 50, probably a grind (though much faster) to get to 100

1
3scap3plan•

Yup, 99 sessions each time. For Tapus Started off with 2 or 3 levels a go, slows to probably one or 0.75 levels towards the high 90's, poke dependent of course.

Sir_Saxobeat•

Yup! I found the same thing. This is great, i had no intention of grinding 100 until now :)

The lockout time from time based events, is it 24 hours? I seem to remember previous games or maybe other Nintendo games had a 24 hour punishment period for time altering.

I think so, but as this was a guide for a question that gets asked a lot in Discord, I was trying to minimize the amount that I asserted things I wasn't 100% certain of.

How the heck is this the first I'm finding out you can hatch eggs in the poke pelago?!? Thanks for sharing lol.

7
Optofire•

It takes quite a while and is not a great method. I just use it to finish off the few extra eggs at end of a breeding project. You will need a week+ to do normal parent-swap breeding by this instead of Taurus.

Storm137•

The only Pokemon I can say I did most of my hatching with this method was Beldum.

Beldum is such a pain..

1
gilnimDreadCapnGreg•

Cool, I never knew what it did. I just assumed it was for raising happiness or affection or something

1
L0rv-•

It's also terrible for that. The EV reducing berries (which you should have hundreds of from the berry island) also increase happiness.

LifeSmashOP•

No problem! Considering the fact that I hadn't seen a thread about it on this sub, despite the obviously game-changing nature of the glitch, as well as the fact that I had to explain it a few times on the r/stunfisk Discord (totally recommend BTW), I wonder if r/stunfisk isn't as good at sharing new information as it thinks it is.

This isn't the only tidbit that I'm surprised r/stunfisk hasn't caught wind of. Did you know someone apparently won a VGC tournament last weekend running Guzzlord?

How does changing the clock affect eligibility for the Festival Plaza Global Mission rewards?

3
Duggler657iNKWiTs•

This wouldn't have any bearing on your global mission reward. It may stop you from using gamesynch for a time, but even if that's the case, that shouldn't effect it either.

4
phl0xed•

Figured as much. Thanks for the response!

1
kholdstare942•

Does it have to be set to a specific year?

3
Lanthqnum•

Don't think so, 2017 works fine.

5
LifeSmashOP•

It works in 2017, I haven't tested with other years. (This is why I don't call it the Y2K glitch; it clearly doesn't have to be literally the year 2000! :P)

Sadly patched now. rest in peace exploit I didn't know about until the day they patched it.

2

Yeah it sucks I only found our about it today as well.

just came here and I thought exactly the same thing

1
MyNameCouldBeFrank•

Wait, so there was actually a glitch and I'm not going crazy when afew weeks ago I suddenly had all my things complete when I thought I only started them afew hours prior

1
s33k3r_Link•

Did they patch this with the latest update? I havent been able to find any posts saying it has been patched, so I am assuming not. If not, I will prob update my 3ds when I get home.

I beat Rank 50 on Battle Tree, and now the receptionist won't give me the rewards for two days straight. Will she ever give them, or do I need to re-battle and not mess with the clock?

1
Storm137•

I am so glad I found this thread. I'm MM Beldum and losing my ever loving mind running around that stupid ranch.

It's usually the fastest way to EV train in a stat

This is just wrong. If you don't have appropriate Power items, or Pokerus, Isle Evelup is certainly simpler you can still pull down 4-6 EVs (depending on what stats you're training for) per battle-- about 120 battles to fully-trained.

If you do have appropriate items and Pokerus, you can finish EV training in like, fourteen battles.

Honestly, as far as I can tell, the most utility of EV training at Poke Pelageo comes from a fire-and-forget method for people who want to slow-train while they're at work.

Panda_Mon•

Poke Pelago is the only reason I have been able to try Competitive pokemon battling. I dont have the time or desire to meticulously grind away hours of my day for ev training and egg hatching. I can do some breeding, set up some EV training, and let my pokemon cook overnight. Then when I do have some time to play, I can spend it in battles, like pokemon was meant to be played.

19
95percentsidekick•

The glitch allows you to max out a stat in less than three minutes for up to 18 pokemon at once, the only set up required being a maxed out Evelup Isle (which can be achieved in ten minutes using the same glitch). There's no way chaining Pokemon can get faster than that.

11
WTS_BRIDGE•

Sure, the cheaty thing is faster than not using an exploit. That's not what I'm talking about.

-12
LifeSmashOP•

cheaty thing

Found your problem.

I did edit the passage for clarity, though, so thanks for that I guess. Be more polite in the future, please?

8
WTS_BRIDGE•

Well if you're going to do things that the game doesn't want you to, why not just gen a bunch of perfectly trained mon? That would be faster, plus it'd work more than once every 24 hours.

I'm not saying using an exploit is wrong or bad or whatever, but it is a glitch and not an intended feature. EV training at the Pelageo without using the glitch is slower than EV training with Power items; using the glitch to EV train is a half-measure since you could as easily just import a bunch of already-perfected Pokemon.

No need to be rude buddy, just take in the knowledge and if you don't like it leave

The_Ponnitor•

How else are we going to refer to it? Seriously, "the Pelago glitch" is just a shorter way of saying "that glitch in the Pelago" or whatever other way we'd say it long-form.

Also, glitch names usually come from speedrunners or other glitch-hunters, and code-happy types are suckers for short, distinct names that tell us exactly what they're talking about (gotta keep those variable names tight).

16
LifeSmashOP•

For what it's worth, I simply call it that because... well, yeah, I do spend a lot of time watching speedrunners actually LOL. Mostly I feel like it rolls off the tongue well and accurately describes what the glitch is about without an extra cost in length. If another useful Pelago glitch is found, we can revisit naming conventions. (The only other Pelago-related glitch I'm aware of is a very obscure/difficult softlock which you can find with google if you care.)
