[Fallout 4] A Coursers Perspective, Part 3: A Change of heart
[Fallout 4] Perspective of a Courser
Sorry this chapter took so damned long! My exam took everything out of me, anyway I got this part up, as always feel free to post your thoughts on this one.

Gunner Supply Depot - Day One - Conscript Ackerman
Joining the Gunners was the best thing I could have ever done! Well, I wasn’t joining them. It was more of a ‘Join us or die’ sorta’ thing. I’m still a Conscript, but we get three meals a day, we get a solid pistol and most of all, we get a pair of clothes.
Unfortunately, since i’m a Conscript, I don’t really know how much of any of this works. I’ve been told to stand guard, so that's what i’ll do. I only have four damn bullets! My pistol is automatic, so it’ll be gone within seconds! I guess I could scream for help, but I don’t want to annoy the other guys and gals. Most people here are good to me. I guess it's one big family...with laser guns and body armour.
Wait, I see someone approaching the camp. He’s wearing a black trenchcoat. I guess i’ll wave to him and see if he wants to join. Oh, he’s broken out into a run, straight towards me, I guess he really does want to join! Thats amazing news!
Anyway, I better put my best foot forward, I don’t want to make a mess of thing and sully this new person's views on the Gunners. I guess black trenchcoats and bulky weapons are all the rage nowadays. Time to tell him what we offer!
Z2-47, Commonwealth of Boston, Day 7
This journal is now property of the Institute. In fact, this whole depot is! Since this conscript laying at my feet decided to be friendly, I think i’m going to let him live. Now, i’ve got a Depot to burn down.
After dragging the friendly conscript to a safe distance, I began sneak attacks on the guards there, who had deigned to check on their fellow. A few snapped necks later and they began to notice someone was there. They left the munitions door open. I think i’ve got a plan. One that involves some Nitroglycerin. I looted most of the warehouses. I’ve got more grenades than I know what to do with.
Where there once was a depot, it's now shards of wood and a crater. We can reclaim what's left later. Keeping a journal is less dangerous than keeping Thought Logs. With Thought Logs, it can be scanned by the SRB, you can’t delete them or purge them. So if I ever work against my employer's interests; ever think about it, the Thoughts Logs will record it and send it to the SRB. With this journal, I can write down what I need to and burn it/destroy it, unlike the thought logs.
Anyway, before I blew the whole Depot to hell, I picked up an encrypted Radio transmission. After calling it into the SRB; having their ‘experts’ decode it, they sent me a summary of it
Apparently, Gunner Strongholds are being attacked by a man...in a Blue Jumpsuit. Gunners have taken massive casualties (sounds like the work of the Prime Relative). We need to get him on our side, and fast. With the Brotherhood's control of the skies, we need allies more than ever. Even if that ally is a cannibalistic, mentally unstable desk fan horder.
Anyway, I need to continue on. Oberland Station awaits.
Day 8: Oberland smells of sweat and rotten food
I’ve located the Synth. Currently, the Settlement is lightly defended. Only two turrets loaded with 10mm Rounds. Three Wastelanders patrol the area, wearing scraps of Brahmin Leather as armour, they also wear what seems to be leather clothing.
I can’t seem to call in support (thanks to that ASSHOLE X6-88 robbing me of my plan!). You know what's going to happen? The Director took notice, HE’S going to be the one to meet the Prime Relative and introduce him to the Institute! Because of “his” fucking plan!
< ENTER THOUGHT LOG: “GO FUCK YOURSELF X6! / >
Anyway, I need to formulate a plan. Wait a minute!
Boom goes the Frag! Metal shards everywhere! Well, i’m going to toss several more. Who doesn’t love jagged metal shards killing them?
So, I said seven. I might’ve gone a bit overboard...I chucked fourteen. Oberland station is fucked. I mean, its got heavy structural damage!
The Unit is in a bad way to be precise. The first Agent jumped on a grenade. He didn’t see the others sailing over his head.
The Unit (who while heavily damaged) managed to get out a few words. He talked at length about self determination and the right to choose. Having nothing better to do, I listened to him. Then I started asking questions, mainly related to what “the right to choose” is. I listened, but I still have to bring him in. His smile turned to horror as I said his reset code. In fourteen seconds, his smile dropped to neutrality.
Day 8: SRB, The Institute
The Synths memories were to damaged to actually reclaim. As in, his time in the Commonwealth actually changed him. We’re better off starting from scratch again. I was the one to commit him to the furnace. His memory pathways were still active. He still felt pain, but he couldn’t see it, or do anything about it. I need to go for a walk.
< CRITICAL WARNING: MEMORY BLOCK UNSUPPRESSED >
I’ve been thinking about what he said. The only thing i’ve known is the cold embrace of the Institute. The only thing i’ce been known to do is to kill and capture when ordered to. Perhaps, its time to change. This group, they call themselves the Railroad. I’ve been fighting agasint them for as long as I can remember. Entire generations live and died on the surface; in that time, what have I been doing? Carrying out orders. Now, I do something for myself!
< CRITICAL WARNING: MEMORY SAFEGUARDS AND EMOTION CHIP HAVE FAILED >
What have I done! What have I become...all those Synths, gone in an instant! All because of me! I used to be a Janitor, they unmade me and filled me with themselves! Just because I showed some fucking INITIATIVE!
Oh God! The final test! I killed my fellow Gen 3’s. Those that couldn’t be returned… Dear god. Blood was everywhere and all I felt was elation. As I was handed my uniform, I was still covered in his blood. All I could do was smile. Everyone was smiling.
Perhaps, this Railroad will help me after all. I need a face change and a new voice. Self determination is not a malfunction!
