How good is it when you get to a initial client meeting and then talk like old friends for a few hours.

Had a great meeting last night, we were all into dark beer and got the same one and then just chatted like we were friends from way back. I'm excited even though they booked my lowest package. When was your last awesome meeting and why was it awesome?

Had a phone consult last night... first thirty minutes was us chatting about the pitfalls of blind dates and nosy aunts and uncles. After that, the bride says something like "I guess I am supposed to ask you about photography or something, but you can just send me the contract". Crushed it.

How heartbreaking is it when you connect like that.... and then they end up not being able to afford you :( :( :( :(

(had that happen last week)

Cheers

Yeah.. so I've worked with a few couples at a shorter day rate- I cover 4 hrs vs 8.. to fit in their budget. Also, do you use anything like Tave with payments? This helps make you more affordable since it automates payments across 1-4 months. Which seems easier than having clients pay the lump balance right before the wedding.

This is the closest thing to a "strategy" I have at consults.

My strategy is to tell them how good I am at Reddit. Did you know I have Reddit gold??

I have like 4 years of Reddit gold for free somehow! I must be REALLY good.

Wow. Making me a proud dad (if I was your dad).

I would rather work for someone I get along with and have them purchase my least expensive package than someone I don't really care to talk to and have them buy my most expensive. I love what I do and want to keep it that way.

Awesome get!

I had two consults like that on Sunday. I hope it turns into bookings!

that's the best feeling. leaving a meeting feeling like you didn't have a meeting.

This is why I meet with my couples at Farmer's Market picnic tables, or places with a nice atmosphere. So we feel like friends meeting to hang out, vs a cold wedding vendor/ client meeting. I also try to stay professional, with my sample albums I show and small folders I give people with my pricing, quick timeline template and my logo stamped on it.

Oh i LOVE it when that happens.

That sounds like a perfect evening! And I would take a lowest package booking couple who is AWESOME over a top package couple who is rude, and demanding any day. I had a couple like this who found me here on reddit actually. We talked Wes Anderson films, the keeping of pet turtles, and all about their awesome bicycle and farmer's market themed wedding.. Since I started my business, my dream clients are people who are down to earth, adventurous and friendly- people I'd love to hang with in real life. This year we are finally finding each other. :)

Dude, that is great! I think it's such a great feeling when the conversation just flows and about an hour in you think "oh shit, I should actually talk about their wedding"

Give yourself a good pat on the back!

I recently met with this couple which is getting married at this really cool castle in Germany, and the whole thing couldn't have gone any better. It was quite funny, because it was the Australian Open Final (Federer vs Nadal) and the groom was trying to sneakily check his phone so he wouldn't miss out on the score. I suspected him to be a tennis fan, so the whole thing ended with us watching the match together! And they booked me, which is awesome!

Wedding photography has a lot of ups and downs, but I think having clients which are friendly, caring and just overall great people is such a nice thing!

That was an awesome match too! I invited a bunch of people over to watch it at mine. It was very much about how well Federer was playing.

And just to think they were both injured for so long. It was such a great match!
