Does hiding a Wi-Fi SSID help increase performance in crowded environments?

See this comment from a r/livesound discussion about configuring Wi-Fi routers for remote access to digital sound consoles. Is there any truth to this? I am skeptical, as I don't think hiding the SSID will cut down on the amount of traffic that the audience's devices will be sending anyways.
