Calling problems on the LG Watch Sport

I am using my new watch without the SIM card. So when I tell the assistant "call this person" it calls up a familiar screen as it shows the little circle like it is about to call (similar to my Moto360) and...... nothing.

Do I have something configured wrong? My Google-fu is lacking in this.
