Being an Ex
BEING AN EX
On a glass table, in a glass year
that can hide little from itself,
I try to write an email to her
who’s been going on dates with someone new
but says she still loves me. Finding no
words, I close the browser and go
to the rooftop of the building, smoke
and listen to the sounds of Thursday
night in the city’s Zona Rosa.
I let the texts and pictures be detritus,
let them take whatever place
they may inside me
and move on to watching the high-rises
light up with music and cellphones
glowing from the balconies.
