Autumn Leaves
“There’s wisdom in the Autumn leaves”
she said
tongue lightly pressed against teeth and cheek
no slobber and slap
of rushing water
the chasm of her mouth spoke with
eloquence
“The elk’s mournful gasp,
the Pharaoh’s God,
tinder shacks,
the river tears of mountain beasts
all breath the air of Autumn leaves”
The last word she spoke sent out
the shivering crackle of dry oak leaves
they shook bellow as well
They layered on the silence
and moved
with whistling winds
“Will they ever reach the sun?” I asked
trees grasping at the blue mirage
But she was gone with Autumn leaves
I feel the wolves breath on my shoulder
