How to clean a scared new cat that sprayed in his carrier

Species: cat

Age: 8 months

Sex/Neuter status: male/getting neutered next week

Breed: ?

Body weight: 15 lbs

History: NSF

Clinucal signs: I just adopted my new friend today. While bringing him in the house my dog (a German Shepherd) ran up to his carrier to sniff and he understandably got spooked. I put him in our bathroom with food, water and a litterbox and left the cage door open, then shut the bathroom door so he could calm down. I went in a half hour later to check on him and he'd sprayed inside his carrier, so he's covered in it.

We have a baby gate and plan on relocating him to our much bigger master bathroom for the next couple of days so him and our dog can get used to each other. I'm just wondering how to clean him up. I don't want to traumatize an already freaked-out cat by bathing him when we just brought him home. Help please.

At pet stores they sell cleaning wipes, kind of like baby wipes, but for cats. Don't use regular baby wipes, cats have sensitive skin. There's also dry shampoos, which are a spray or foam you rub into the fur and then brush, and it dries on its own.

Thanks for the info. I wiped him down a few times with a wet washcloth, which he actually didn't seem to mind. I have some pet odor neutralizer I used on the bathroom and pet carrier.

Is the wet washcloth enough, or should I go out and get some cat wipes? Thanks again.

It's probably enough, unless he's still really stinky. That's the only reason I ever wash my cats in any way, one of them really likes napping in the litter box.
