Help with painting a chest freezer

other

I've been working on a chest freezer to turn into a tap system. I sanded the original coat and then used a Rust-Oleum black paint, sanded, and did 3 coats of a Rust-Oleum matte black enamel spray paint, today I did a clear enamel spray paint coat twice. I like the look but it seems to be very easily scratched and marked even by finger nail. Any advice to how to fix this or is this something I'll have to deal with?

2 component lacquer. That's going to be a lot tougher than your spray paint. Just make sure that the lacquer is compatible with your paint.

Is that going to give it a shine to it? I'm really looking for a flat look.

It might, depending on the lacquer. There's matte-lacquers as well, so those might work.

Did you try a liquid deglosser?

How would that help?

I've done garage doors that come factory coated with the baked enamel finish and you use the liquid sander/ deglosser to give the surface a lot of tooth before you spray your topcoat

Before you go overboard, remember it is an old chest freezer. Most paint takes 20-30 days to cure. Give it some time, then build a spray box and oven.

Primer would have been a great idea.
