Surprised no ones talking about netflix and internet privacy yet

So as many people know, early last year Netflix began aggressively blocking VPN services. The move was primarily to bolster geo-blocking of content but was applied indiscriminately across their networks. There was some outcry but since most of it was from smaller international markets, Netflix stuck with the policy. Now that a number of internet privacy protections in the US have been dissolved it seems to me that Netflix should be getting more flak for not providing any solution for those who just want to lawfully protect their privacy. It seems ridiculous that when I sit down at my computer I have to choose between watching Jessica Jones and internet privacy.

The major issue is that there is no way to distinguish between someone geoblocking and someone using a von for security purposes. Which is why geoblocking works, and what VPNs are SUPPOSED to do.

Just spit balling but I feel like they could work in some leniency for people who could prove they were US residents. It seems a little silly to me that it's now safer for me to torrent content than use the service I pay money for.

Or they could get rid of the stupid geo blocking rules.

Why do you care if someone knows what you watch on netflix? Netflix already has that info since you have to log in. The NSA doesn't care that you watch sad bastard reruns over and over. So the only reason to use a VPN here is to violate their rules.

This isn't a privacy issue, it is a "I want to cheat the system and they don't let me" cry for attention. F-

How are you completely managing to miss the point here? Of course it's a privacy issue you fool. Let's clear something up, I'm specifically talking about how this issue effects US residents, the issue I am describing could only pertain to people FROM THE US, so saying it's ""I want to cheat the system and they don't let me" cry for attention" shows that you clearly don't understand what we're talking about here. Secondly you retard, no one was talking about the NSA, if you were paying attention or even watched Phil's show you'd know the grownups are talking about privacy rules regarding ISPs. When I say I don't want to have to shut down my VPN because it limits my privacy, I'm talking about encrypting my internet traffic which the ISP can now do whatever they wish with it without your consent including but not limited to; selling all your data advertisers or anyone who will pay, inserting their own content into your web browser, tracking your habits, hijacking searches and even inserting their own ads into webpages. And if you try and come back with some moronic argument like "well I don't have anything to hide" Bull-fucking-shit. Whether it's porn, facebook stalking someone, or just googling the lump on your testicle that we all hope is cancerous so you can't breed, everyone has something they don't want made public. F-- for missing chromosomes.

See now you've gone and disarmed all my righteous indignation by complimenting my rant. Touche.

In Netflix small print every user agrees to, Netflix is allowed to turn over a user's watching history to the government should they ask.
