Is Poison Double Dipping not reflected in the software application Path of Building?

Unflaired

I keep hearing that "poison double dips" but when I look at my stats in Path of Building where I loaded my character plan I don't see any double dipping. +Physical damage only scales the initial hit and does not apply twice to the poison damage.

Poison damage is chaos damage.

Physical damage double dips bleed, not poison. Poison is chaos damage, not physical. The increased physical damage only improves the initial hit that the poison is based off of. It doesn't increase the poison further.

Okay so what is an example of actual double dipping I can see in path of building? someone here said +physical double dips but that one is wrong.

I guess increased to chaos damage? But that would require the base skill to deal chaos damage. Viper Strike only converts a fraction of physical to chaos so its not the best example. Is there a better one?

Projectile/area/trap/mine/totem damage, if the skill you're using has the appropriate tags. Generic increased damage works too.

I'm playing Shadow and was probably going to use Viper Strike or Blade Flurry so the only one of those that would apply would be area if I was using Blade Flurry but there are no +area nodes near shadow tree, so is this even applicable?

try concentrated effect. the increased chaos damage on the shadow area nodes works too.

Double dipping occurs when you have some stat that boosts the initial hit of damage, you do a damage over time based on that amount of damage, and the stat also affects the damage of the damage over time portion as well.

For poison:

%increased chaos damage (if you are applying the poison via chaos damage, since if you are doing combination chaos and physical then obviously only the chaos portion would be boosted)

%increased damage

%increased area damage if the poison is applied by a skill that does area damage

%increased projectile damage if the poison is applied by a skill that does projectile damage

%increased trap/mine damage if the poison is applied by a trap/mine (note the Trap Support and Remote Mine Support specifically don't apply their boosts to damage over time, but other sources of trap or mine damage works).

%increased totem damage if the poison is applied by a totem

%increased minion damage if the poison is applied by a minion

What skills deal majority chaos damage before poison? Viper strike is only 25%.

Are projectile attacks better than melee attacks since its easier to take the +projectile skills and therefore double dip?

If you are relying on flat chaos damage (such as from Added Chaos Damage, and the flat chaos on weapons) you can easily get far more of your initial hit to be chaos damage than physical damage.

Projectile and AOE attacks have a better time because they can scale projectile damage/AOE damage as well. For instance with a projectile skill you could use slower proj (assuming it doesn't make it unusable) and pierce for 2 more multipliers.

There are a couple of gaps in path of building, but it defintiely calculates poison damage pretty well.
