A Beginners Guide Part 3: Creating and Maintaining a Strong Team
If you haven't already read Part 1 or Part 2, I would suggest it if you feel confused or would like information about certain spects of the game. Please use the links below.
Part 1: https://www.reddit.com/r/DWUnleashed/comments/639dk9/a_beginners_guide_to_characters_how_character/
Now that I have covered information on Characters/Officers and how to level and promote, I will now cover what everyone seems to be asking. How to make a strong team, and how to make that team strong.
Who do I pick for my team?
A question often asked by a lot of people, and it is a tough one to answer because there are so many variables to what makes a team or even a character strong. The main thing I would suggest is that you have 1 Water, 1 Wood and 1 Fire on your 3 man team. I see so many people running teams of only 2 types or sometimes even 1. This will not work out for you, you need to pick your strongest of each colour and focus on them, do not double dip.
But how do I know which characters I should pick? I have 3 gold red characters etc. That is a fair question, you don't want to waste resources, time and effort on a shitty character. I would say you should follow these bullet points to find who is best for you.
-
What is your highest ★ base character? I have covered this in Part 1, so read up if you need extra information. Basically you need to see which of your characters has the highest ★ base. To check this, enter the index and look for that character and the specific type/colour you have. The ★ rank below their name is their base rank. Out of your selection of officer choices, you should pick the one with the highest ★ rank (at base obviously). Please, Please, Please, understand there is a difference between current ★ rank and BASE ★ rank. You can pull a 4★ character that is a 3★ BASE, that does not make them a 4★ BASE character.
-
If the above has not helped you, this must be because you have multiple of the same ★ base officers to choose from, so of those officers, which is best? Maybe you have a choice between 4 3★ base officers for your Water officer choice. There are 3 factors I would take into consideration when deciding this.
1: Who has the better stats when at max level (check the Index). It is good to know who will be more powerful in the long run, so check out the index to see their stats at MAX level.
2: Who do you feel you will get more duplicate officers of so that you can level up that officer's skills? (Read Part 2 if confused). If your characters aren't that different stat-wise, which do you have more duplicates of? By having a lot of the same character, you can improve that officer by leveling up their skills. If you are stuck choosing between characters, pick the one you can enhance with ease.
3: Who do you like more? This is also important. Go into the Index and try out that character, try out their moves. Do they feel fun to you? Good to you? At the end of the day this is a game, you want to enjoy who you are playing with if you have the choice.
By looking at these, you should have been able to get an idea of who is your strongest team. You can always ask, it never hurts, but the information above should be able to help you decide yourself.
Advanced Team Composition
This is a small section I want to let people know for the long term, do not worry about this when starting the game but consider it for when you have played for a a few weeks.
When you get your first 6★ unit, you should notice that their leader skill has now changed. It will now not only give a bonus to all character, but now it will also give an extra bonus to characters that are of the same type as they are. The different types are:
- Dash (For example Sun Shang Xiang)
- Shield (For example Zhuge Liang)
- Repel (For example Lu Bu)
You can check what type an officer is by looking at the third symbol below their name in the officer menu. A foot is dash officer, a fist is a repel officer and three hexagons is a shield officer
Because your 6★ character will boost one of these types if they are captain, it is beneficial to have a team compromised fully of one type. As I said, do not worry about this for now, just keep it in mind for the long run.
What is the best way to get officers as a Free-to-Play player?
My main suggestion for anyone not looking to spend money is you save your gold until you have enough for a Magical Edict. Sire you can summon an officer for 300 gold but with a magical edict you give yourself 11 officers for the price of 10 and the 11th officer is guaranteed to be at least a 4★ character. This makes your odds of getting a good character much higher. Please do note that the 4★ guaranteed character is unfortunately not guaranteed to be a 4★ BASE character or higher, you could get a 3★ base character as anything over 4★ for all your luck is concerned.
Weapons & Armour
At the end of the day, a character is only as good as the equipment you give them. You are only going to go so far with bad items equipped to your character, so what is the plan?
Ideally to begin with you want to try and make all of your officers you are using, have 3★ weapons and armour equipped. You don't need to panic, you can get there slowly but surely. The best way to do this is to use your daily free pulls to get armour every day. Collect a decent amount of starter armour and then it is your goal to refine it to become more powerful. You should also get a lot of armour and weapons from the story as you go through.
Make sure to level up the equipment you give to your officers, this will give its stats a big boost and greatly help your officer strength. Use crappy pieces of armour or weaponry to refine your chosen armour and try to get it to MAX level. Once you get your gear to max level, it is highly suggested that you start working on a separate weapon or armour of the same rank. If you max out that piece of equipment level too, you can combine the two pieces of equipment to create a new (whatever you combined) which has been upgraded by 1★, similar to promoting an officer.
Bronze, Silver and Gold Weapons have bronze silver and gold too, you obviously want to use the highest ★ piece of equipment with the best rank between bronze, silver and gold. When combining items the result of the combination is random. Combining gold and gold could give you a bronze, combining bronze and bronze could give you a gold. I only assume the higher the rank, the more chance you have of it being a good rank when combined.
Artifacts & Legendary Items
You usually get artifacts from chests from doing missions, quests or events. You can earn a legendary item by collecting 200 legendary weapon fragments.
Best way to gain artifacts is boss battle. You can gain legendary weapon fragments from boss battle and one of the daily trials.
Gems and Sockets
Many of you may have noticed the gems you get out of bags, thinking, what on earth is this? Gems are used to upgrade any piece of equipment, but only if that equipment piece has a socket. A socket will look like an empty circle in the picture of your equipment. Click on that piece of equipment and press socket to add a gem. You can't add any gem you want, they have to correspond with the colour of the socket. Some of you may try this and think "It's asking for a green gem but I can't put the green gem I have in the socket". This may be because that gem is not meant for that type of equipment. If you go to the gem section of the inventory, you will see each gem has a picture on the bottom left. This indicates what type of equipment that gem can be used for.
- Sword - Weapons
- Shield - Armour
- Scroll - Artifacts
Each gem also has a colour which does actually mean something, it represents the extra stat the gem will give along with the power boost:
- Red/Ruby - Attack
- Blue/Sapphire - Defence
- Green/Emerald - Health
- Silver/Diamond - Critical Dodge Chance (A higher chance to nullify critical hits against you)
- Orange/Amber - Critical Hit Chance (A higher chance to land critical hit on enemies)
There are small gems and big gems, big gems obviously are better. If you combine a weapon with gems currently socketed, you will lose the gems, so make sure to remove them beforehand.
That concludes my advice on creating and maintaining a strong team. Make sure to slowly but constantly upgrade your equipment and characters. If the demand is high I can continue this series with more advice on any subject people are struggling with or would like advice on. Thank you for your support and I hope you continue to enjoy this game. Don't forget to read any of my previous parts if you have stumbled across this and want to know more information on officer information or information of how to level and promote your officers.
