"Confirmed"

That readers of Maro's tumblr will go to any length to come up with wild conclusions from what he says.

I wasn't sure if there was something said earlier that this references, as there's zero mention of any multi-colored Gods. This is some major mental gymnastics if the title is the conclusion OP got from the question and answer.

Also, that readers of posts made by the readers of Maro's Tumblr will go to any length to come up with wild conclusions from what they say.

We've confirmed that OP needs to find a dictionary and read it.

Multicolored Gods are just as confirmed as colorless gods, a second cycle of monocolored gods, the return of a few gods from Theros, John Cena, and all of the Power Nine at common.

All of the monocolored gods are in Amonkhet = Multicolored gods in Hour of Devastation... I'm sorry what?

8
WhatIsARedditName•

That was a stretch to get there. Multicolored wasn't even hinted at.

Plus, Maro has stated that the multiple Gods thing was too much in Journey and Born. Can you imagine 10 gods in a small set? That may be one of the worst sets ever.

Aeashml•

Arguably vaguely hinted at, confirmed. Basically the same thing.

He answered that question as straight as can be. All five monocolored gods will be in this set. Nothing is being said or inferred about multicolored gods from his use of the word 'monocolored' to describe the cycle of gods. We can't extrapolate that to Hour of Devastation.

6
Kazharahzak•

His suspiciously specific phrasing makes this a good theory but it's in no way confirmed, especially since no multicolored god has been seen nor hinted at in the story so far.

Look, I'm not the kinda guy that calls for everything to get deleted, but mods?

Edit: @OP, cool topic for discussion, not a confirmation of anything.

5
mxzf•

There's not even anything to discuss. All we got is that WotC isn't doing something crazy like splitting up the cycle of monocolored gods across two sets, which was the assumption to begin with.

From what I hear the good money is on one multicolored God-Pharoah.

I think making this baseless statement has absolutely no value. Fortunately for OP, I agree with him and can (make an attempt to) back him up. Lets take a look at the cards we've already seen spoiled:

We've seen two gods, [[Kefnet the Mindful]] and [[Hazoret the Fervent]], and we know at least one other god [[Oketra, God of Solidarity]] based on the flavour text in [[Glory-Bound Initiate]] and [[In Oketra's Name]]. So what do we know? WE HAVE GODS.

[[Regal Caracal]] mentions "Oketra's Viziers" which implies that these gods have viziers (whatever a vizier technically is..they have em)

We can see one of Hazorets Viziers is [[Anep, Vizier of Hazoret]] in the flavor text of [[Ahn-Crop Crasher]], as well one of Kefnets Viziers, [[Neponen, vizier of Kefnet]] in [[Floodwaters]]

Now if we look at the two Viziers we have actually seen, we have [[Temmet, Vizier of Naktamun]] and [[Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons]]. Neither of Naktamun or Poisons(?) are gods (that we have seen). But never-the-less these are two Viziers that, based on our current knowledge, belong to some gods. These cards are also multi-coloured, implying that their gods are also multicoloured (don't have much to back up that assumption yet).

If we read more flavour text we see: On [[Scarab Feast]] we get [[Epnokep, Vizier of Bontu]], on [[Painful Lesson]] we get [[Senifet, Vizier of Bontu]], on [[Manglehorn]] [[Crocodile of the Crossing]] and [[Colossapede]] we get [[Rhonas, god of strength]], on [[Splendid Agony]] we get [[Ukhat, Vizier of Initiation]], and on [[Nest of Scarabs]] and [[Lay Bare the Heart]] we get [[Bontu, god of Ambition]].

So NOW what are we looking at? Well our Viziers are:

[[Temmet, Vizier of Naktamun]] - spoiled

[[Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons]] - spoiled

[[Anep, Vizier of Hazoret]] - spoiled god

[[Epnokep, Vizier of Bontu]]

[[Senifet, Vizier of Bontu]]

[[Ukhat, Vizier of Initiation]]

And our Gods are:

[[Kefnet the Mindful]] - spoiled

[[Hazoret the Fervent]] - spoiled

[[Oketra, God of Solidarity]] - white

[[Rhonas, god of strength]] - green

[[Bontu, god of Ambition]] - black

But who then are Naktamun, Poisons, and Initiation? Granted I admit god names of 'Poisons' and 'Initiations' sounds weird. But ignoring the fact it doesn't roll off the tongue, this points to us having more than 5 gods, 8 thus far that I can see and I'm not anticipating we have gods of the same colours in a block which means I'm guessing they will be multicolour in HOD. Maybe I'm wrong and viziers can be for things other than gods? Maybe none of this actually makes sense and I should stop over examining it...but hey, I think its pretty compelling.

edit: some formatting

edit 2: Now that i'm reading my post, we have two "wordings' for god names

  1. ______ THE _______

  2. ______, GOD OF ________

It would make grammatical sense to have viziers for the Gods of (1) and viziers of the gods quality for (2)

I.E we wouldn't have a God named poisons, but a God OF Poisons, and then we have Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons. But I don't have anything to back that up, just trying to explain the potentially weird wording

edit 3: I should probably have just made this its own post seeing as this posting won't see the light of day considering how baseless it was...

Ok, I'll admit my title was needlessly click-baity for what is actually, at best, a very thin theory. Nonetheless, I'm totally going to say "called it" when they start getting spoiled. And if they don't, I'll eat a cat creature card.
