They Said Row Gently
VERSION 2 (Revised, expanded)
Row, row, row your boat
fiercely down the stream.
There will be wind and waves and strife;
This life is not a dream.
~
They said row gently, they said row merrily,
But He did not intend
For this to be a dainty fancy,
A paddle 'round the Bend
~
Not a frolic, nay a gauntlet -
A tortuous try for land
Gazing backwards, pushing forth,
Hot blisters rend the hands.
~
Why labor so, the watchers wonder
When currents take you home?
Why try to beat the river when
She moves you on her own?
~
But this is not a question that
You and I must ask;
For you and me the question is,
How does one go fast?
~
Who can say to where you head?
You see but where you've been.
Don't slow the oars or stop to think;
He'll lead you to the end.
~
So keep the pace throughout the race
Your time is running thin;
It's time to go, it's time to row,
You must press on, my friend.
VERSION 1 (original)

There will be waves, there will be blisters,
There will be headwinds in this dream.

A paddle 'round the Bend

So keep the pace throughout the race
Your time is running thin;
It's time to go, time to row,
You must press on, my friend.
