Spin Review Zine: Father John Misty - Pure Comedy (Photos, Reviews, Discussion, etc.)
EDIT: If you decide to downvote the post based on the album, you're entirely missing the point here! This is a way to prevent over-populating the sub with repeat album posts. Furthermore, generating these reviews as a sub is a great community activity and will create some excellent resources for users in the future. We won't always be choosing the most recent trendy album - feel free to PM with suggestions on albums you'd like to cover in the future. During any large release, we'll likely focus on that album in order to address the several self-posts. Cheers!
This is a proper place to generally discuss the music along with any other details. Even if you don't own the album, feel free to comment on the songs, album as a whole, music videos, anything related to the album - and then feel free to comment again if you ever end up purchasing and share info about the pressing quality and your photos! New info will be added to this main post as it is shared by users in our community.
Hey, r/vinyl - I'm generally pleased with how the Gorillaz thread went last week and we will continue to redirect any self-post from this album to the thread to compile information in one place. Thanks to everyone who contributed! Here's how these review threads work: we'll pick a popular album and generate this all-encompassing webzine created by the community for discussing the music itself along with the pressing quality, sharing images from our collection, etc. When we post a new Spin Review Zine, we'll direct all posts concerning that specific record to this thread for one month after posting so that it's filled with plenty of info that can be used for reference in the future. We can also keep a running list of all the albums we've reviewed and discussed as a subreddit for easy access.
Another recently popular album that has received several user posts is Father John Misty's Pure Comedy. Seems like the album has been very hit or miss for those who have decided to take on the ~75 minute album, so this is an excellent place to discuss your opinion on the content. If you decide to share whether you enjoy the album or not, please just casually remember musical taste is a preference and you're only sharing a view, not factual information. Even if you've already submitted a self-post, please take the time to comment here on press/mastering quality and share your photos. Thanks!

Pure Comedy, the latest album from Father John Misty, is a sprawling masterwork that sounds, at times, like the quietly calm, self-assured delirium of a mad genius. You'd need a wall chart straight out of A Beautiful Mind to map the vast matrix of ruminations he unspools over the course of these 13 beautifully orchestrated tracks. He fires shots at religion, America's love affair with prescription drugs, the vapid promises of pop music, social media and just about anything else you can hoist from the bottomless well of 21st century outrage. "Music is chaos," Josh Tillman, who began writing as Father John Misty in 2012, recently told the New York Times. "When I write songs, I'm opening the door to madness." Tillman, as Father John Misty, isn't always easy to love. He openly admits to being petulant and seems to delight in the subversion of everything that has led him to this point in his life, from his own talents as a musician to the people and institutions that have supported him. Maybe it's Tillman's defense against his open and ongoing battle with severe depression and anxiety. But to some it's a smug and ultimately self-destructive assault without a cause. But provocative artists are also capable of profound revelations that give pause and inspire deep thought and reflection — and albums rarely have the immense scope, ambition and vision of Pure Comedy. - NPR
