How can I improve as Genji?

Heya! I'm currently on a very low winrate as Genji (note: all in Quick Match) Now, I've definitely learned to take QM with a grain of salt, but I do feel I can improve on Genji.

My normal build: Agile Dismount, Shuriken Mastery, Cyber Shield, Depends, Double Jump, Reflect, Zanshin.

What do you guys think? As far as I know this is HORSEPANTS' build, but I'm really not sure if this is the best. Im really not sure if Agile Dismount is worth taking at 1, but the other options dont seem too helpful either. At 7, it seems situational with Cyber Shield vs Dodge, but then there's also Perfect Defense, but im not sure when exactly youd want that over the other defensive talents. At 10, it seems pretty clearly about whether you need the untargetable frames or not. At 13 I've been taking Double jump to synergize with the rest of the build, but Shingan seems to be extremely good if used consistently. Do you guys think its consistent enough to be worth taking? Then at 16 I've been taking Reflect because it seems the most useful, but Final Cut looks like it has potential too. At 20 I just take Zanshin because it seems really powerful and the other choices dont look very strong other than Living Weapon.

Gameplay wise, I try to do what everyone says and "finish off people" but the thing is, i feel like my team is never actually pushing people to be low enough health for me to finish them off., and I cant do much unless they are low. The weakness vs PvE is also slightly frustrating. What do you guys think?

I'd played against one Genji before. I can say he is def the best I've seen. He was never afraid of getting trouble. He used Dragonblade to instantly kill our healer even when the whole team was around the healer, we couldn't do anything.

Maybe try to start Not thinking him as a kill secure.

Imo, he's just like Medivh. Medivh can deal tons of damage and also secure low-health kill.

Hope this would help

I tried Agile Dismount and it just doesn't work for me.

Yeah, not too sure about it. Going to start experimenting with the move speed on enemies hit with dash.

Not playing him? :D

Agile Dismount seems really situational. Whatever the name of the MS one after the dash seems better in the vast majority of cases.

Final Cut is pretty nice for making sure enemies don't survive with 100 HP and deny you a reset. There's no indicator like with GFTT that says they will die from your Dash, so mistakes happen.

Deflect talents at 7 I'm not particularly a fan of, mostly because it will often rely on the enemies' mistakes for them to get value. The shield isn't really worth it, you'd avoid more damage with Dodge or Cyber Shield. Reduced deflect cooldown on the other hand can have some uses and you can get cooldown reduction from nonheroics.. but again that's something with counterplay, whereas there is no such thing with Dodge or Cyber Shield.

Shingan's consistency is pretty dependent on your skill but also by how close you're able to get. Against tiny targets like Li Ming you have to literally be right in their face and consistently aim and hit the shurikens while she moves without missing one. It's easier against fatter targets.

Dragonblade shreds a lot of QM teams but untargetability and burst often means more in this meta.

Zanshin can do solid damage even if you don't get one of those amazing 4 man solos where everyone hits you with fast damage but zero interrupts. It can still chunk pretty hard. It's also just generally the most "consistent" on the tier. X Strike cooldown reduction is good because it's a survivability and mobility tool, so having it up sooner isn't bad. Dragonblade doesn't really need increased duration, if it takes you longer than 8 seconds to kill half their team with it you probably aren't going to kill them to begin with. Sharpened Stars is also just consistent and obviously more ideal in a Q build, but the damage it adds might just be countered by lategame healing talents like in the case of Lucio or Brightwing.

The MS at level 1 is really good but I just really like agile dismount for the way I play him.

I lets you jump melee range to people for shotgun and saves E for escape/finish. Let's you reposition quickly and gives map mobility.

But as I said MS is really good too. His talents are pretty good and diverse.

Thanks for the reply from the man himself. I've experimented more and I do think Agile Dismount is really strong. Especially with Shingan. I can jump from a whole screen away right to where I will instantly be able to get 3 shurikens in them.

P.S. love your stream and gameplay keep it up senpai
