New Thinkpad owner here.

Well, not so new considering it's an x60, but still. I've had it for a littie while and i LOVE it. I installed linux and shoved an SSD on it and it runs like a charm! I'm mostly satisfied as it meets my needs for a portable and versatile(if a little weak,) PC.

My question is, how do I get started on the thinkpad world? Where do I find guides, parts, and accessories? I wanna make this laptop last a hell of a long time, and keep an eye out for potential replacements after it's gone. How do I know which thinkpad has all the sweet features my x60 has?

I have a ton of questions and I'm sorry if they're easily solvable for wasting your time.

This site should answer some of your questions. For older thinkpads thinkwiki.org is a good resource, but if you are reading this with a newer thinkpad, consider contributing there.

This is a little like saying "I want to learn how to program. Where do I start". It's almost always easier to recommend something if you know what you want to accomplish.

If you need a new battery, keyboard or something like that, IBM is the place to go to. They have spare parts for all Thinkpads. I recently bought my third keyboard for one of my old Thinkpads form them.

I'm sorry if this wasn't what you were looking for but this is what I deduced from your question(s).

I want my thinkpad to last, basically. Learn how to disassemble it and take care of it. I suppose the thinkpad wiki has all the info I need, and I'll try looking at a couple YouTube videos.

The single most important document for that is the Hardware Maintenance Manual, to which you'll find a link in the ThinkWiki.

Hi I really hope you could answer my question. How do I reach IBM for the parts?

I'm try to replace the battery in an X1Carbon 4th generation and I called the parts number for IBM and they don't have the battery in stock and have no clue when it will be restocked.
