Skibba's Vocal Range is Terrific

His range and tone sound so different in each of the deluxe extras. One of the intros I had thought they had gotten a guest to sing, but it was Skibba singing really low. His energy has an emotional charge to it that can really grip you to the lyrics.

YES. Long Lost Feeling at 2:16 onward (Say goodbye, until it hurts), gives me chills. Not just because I love the line, but his range just gets me so amped at that moment, building up to singing both octaves.

Edit: Also, on the Live Acoustic BTD from the Deluxe, I LOVE how he starts the ohh-ohh in one octave and jumps up without warning, puts so much energy into it for me.

You're talking about the intro of Last Train Home? Yeah that was funny, it sounded like System of a Down or something for a sec.

Really sets the dark tone but then quickly blends more into a Blink 182 (or at least California era) sound.

His range it outstanding. I mean, from that to the background vocals on the chorus of Bored to Death, he can literally be lower than Mark or or as high as Tom.

Yes of course

sorry but there's so much bullshit in comments like these. Mark is a baritone. Matt is a tenor. Matt's lowest note in the WHOLE album of California is just a B2. It's not even close to Mark's lowest recorded note (D2) and I'm sure he can go even lower. the dude isn't even a high baritone

Appreciate your music theory knowledge but it's a little bit much to start pulling in notes of vocals on an album.

Matt's voice is DYNAMIC in its use of low Feeling voice, high, screamy, average, etc.

Notes aside, you listen to the beginning of Last Train Home and then hear his dubbed harmonies on some songs and stuff like Teenage Satellites, Bored to Death chorus background vox, etc. it's just damn impressive.

With all your music theory science, you ignored simply using your ears and listening.

what do you mean "it's a little bit much to start pulling in notes of vocals on an album"? how eles would you want me to prove your fallacy?

I assume that by "dynamic" you mean to versatility, and the fun fact is that he's not even that versatile of a singer. there are plenty of other singers that smoke him versatility-wise like Mike Patton, Dustin Bates, Scott Weiland, etc. Matt is a pretty mediocre singer m8. his low singing in Last Train Home is pretty good and refreshing, but it's not even that low, just B2-F#3 range. Mark literally sings lower at the track that comes after (Wildfire) where he goes for A2s on the backing vocals of the second verse

not sure what you were trying to mumble there at the your last sentence, but tldr - Mark's low register is stronger, Matt's upper register is stronger, and it makes perfect sense considering one is a baritone and other is a tenor

I think you're a bit too technical and nerdy on this topic for your own good.

Using my ears, Matt is versatile and does things that sound totally different qualitatively and are surprising. Stop citing notes. If those were all that was required for truth, then I wouldn't be noticing the qualitative differences I am.

I think your knowledge and expertise just doesn't apply in this situation. And the fact that you're making it a pissing contest mentioning other random artists who you think are more versatile shows me you just aren't comprehending at all that I am just appreciating Matt's ability to contribute something notably different for each situation.

Intro to last train home is straight up skiba alkaline trio voice which I love!! He really needs to make another alkaline trio album!!!

The first time I heard the chorus of Left Alone, my jaw dropped. The man hits the highs in a way that shakes you to your core. Did it again on Long Lost Feeling. Matt fucking Skiba

Yes man, yes. Those are my two favorite moments on this album for that very reason.

The first line of Last Train Home, I didn't realize it was skiba until it came up. It shocked me and it was amazing. I hope they capitalize on his ability as a singer and songwriter going forward

Matt's vocals are the best thing that happened to blink since the second break-up.

Skiba is an incredibly talented singer, and I love the mentality and energy he brings to the band. He's honestly the only one i would accept at this point (other than Tom), and I'm eternally grateful for what he has done

Agree! great tone and range. He's a baritone with a very wide range

He's clearly a tenor though

Antone else think he sounds like he's stand a metre from the mic. There's a bit more power in some of the DLX songs but in a lot of Cali he sounds like Mark from far away.
