this is bordering on transphobia.
Wat.
Tim Farron's sniping at the LGBT community
Also wat.
Welcome to social media these days, where public discourse is ruled by people who could be considered professionally offended by everything if only there was anyone paying them. They do it pro publico bono.
I guess cause it shows a woman with a man's face? Is this supposed to be like the new blackface or something?
Bizarre or too close to the truth to be comfortable?
I seem to remember it was the conservatives that started this trend in advertising with the "New Labour, New Danger" campaign against Blair.
I seem to remember it was the conservatives that started this trend in advertising with the "New Labour, New Danger" campaign against Blair.
And it didn't work. So why use it as a strategy when they should be attacking policies?
Isn't this going to simply increase voters transferring from UKIP to the Tories?
"Vote her, get him" sounds like the best of both worlds for kippers.
Who are these Tory voters that might look at that and think "My god, I best vote LD!"?
I suspect this poster will only turn up in high Remain places like Twickenham and Richmond Park. Also Farage has a -62 approval rating according to Yougov, which is worse than Nuttall.
Probably because more people don't know who Nuttall is, to be honest. Whereas you'd have to be very isolated from the news for the last few years to have entirely avoided Farage.
How could someone not know about the man who is not just Jesus' first disciple but the first man in space? The man who found Livingstone before Stanley, but allowed him to take the credit?
And what a wonderful world that would be.
It might affect those students who vote tory for mummy and daddy, they could have still opposed Brexit and may just find their voice with this.
Similar to vote Blair, get Brown?
Random jack offs claiming this is transphobic isn't news.
If all world diseases were cured, there would be assholes on twitter/tumblr whining that not everyone wants to be well and that it's their choice to get ebola if they want.
This is very similar to the campaign poster used by Scottish Conservatives in the 2015 general election.
The Tories need to use some of those ill-gotten campaign funds to hire a designer. That poster looks like somebody made it in MS Paint.
This is pretty good
I remember a similar one at some point in the recent past, can anyone remember what it was?
ITV News has the same level of journalistic integrity as Fox News, so this angle doesn't surprise me in the least.
Bluekip
I wouldn't touch it with yours.
Well I guess I know what new monster will be haunting my next nightmare.
Did they all go the same PR firm or something? Vote x Get y. Fuck off.
It's called parody
Why would potential Tory supporters think this is a bad thing? Tories like Farage!
It's probably for use in high Remain areas.
Jesus Christ, its Tiff Needell
Somewhere in the home counties, Tiff Needell is ecstatic that someone remembered who he was.
Interesting move, given how enduringly popular Farage remains within some demographics - that is, absolutely not people who are going to vote Lib Dem.
Who is it aimed at? Tories who dislike Farage? The only result I can see from it is more small-c conservatives moving to vote Labour.
Reminds me of something from star wars....

UK political marketing campaigns really are weak. Nobody seems to have a clue how to do a cohesive, six week campaign so they throw every single bit of shit at the wall and hope something sticks. It's really disappointing.
Does anyone remember the poster of Hague with Thatcher's hair on it?
As a gay man and fierce defendant of trans-people I honestly cannot see where the transphobia comes on this far from bizarre poster.
How many neurons do they have in ITV if they can't understand it ?
Bizarre ?
I don't recall the "Vote Labour, Get SNP" type bullshit posters that the Tory wanks produced last time being described as bizarre. Both them had some kernels of truth in them, May is literally Farage dressed as a fucking walking grey skeleton
'She looks like if the colour grey didn't care if you lived or died.' - Frankie Boyle on HIGNFY this week, I thought that was pretty good.
I don't think it's really a good strategy for grabbing the mindshare of the electorate though.
No-one seems to care about Farage anymore now Brexit is underway - no-one thinks they're getting Farage with May - people are moving on to internal policies.
I intend to vote Lib Dems but by gosh, Farron is making some blunders.
You may be right on this one but it seemed to do wonders for the Tories in the last election, seemed to put the wind up many an English voter, the thought of Scotland (via the SNP) perhaps having a say in how the country was run,
I suppose what it comes down to is trying to get inside the head of the average voter - and finding something that resonates with their fears.
For example, lions are more dangerous than ordinary house spiders, but if you put up a picture of a house-spider in a public place, people are going to react differently to a picture of a lion (they may even enjoy the lion picture).
People irrationally fear house-spiders, they don't even irrationally fear lions.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, if the electorate don't already have a fear (rational or not) e.g. "Corbyn is a secret communist"... then you can't instil that fear - fears need fertile ground to take root, they need a premise.
No-one fears Farage, they think he's a joke, even liberal voters don't see Farage as a threat, like they see May. To be honest, this would have more impact if they appealed to Tory voters by going after May's personality-politics - a vote for Conservatives is a vote for her!... and then point out the policies that Tories are devided on - e.g. hard brexit, gas prices caps, triple lock pensions etc... there are lots of cracks in her armour which could do with a good beating.
Seems like even the fox-hunting thing riled a few Tory voters I know - who are very passionate about animal rights. She is ripe for being torn apart by a pack of angry
dogsopposition - why are we focusing on stupid stunts like this?Thing is the picture is quite unpleasant and clearly May. So making her look even more of a weirdo than she does might be the whole plan.

But that was in the context of the polls showing a massive SNP surge, making a lab-nat coalition seem a real possibility.
Everybody now thinks that UKIP are declining, there is no prospect of a ukip-con coalition, and Farage isn't even running.
They're going the anti-Brexit route hard, but nobody I know will vote for them because of it. Legalising weed and opposing the snooper's charter seems like huge vote winners to me, but they aren't focusing on them.
I miss the good old days when literally didn't literally mean the opposite of literally
'Literally' has been used as a hyberbolic intensifier since at least the C17th. It's one of those words with multiple meanings which seem to oppose each other (c.f. 'cleave'), and has had those ever since those good old days.
I mean I read the article before the comments and thought it was pretty clear that "bizarre" was in reference to the face swap and not the argument...
They've been doing his for years. Remember the Hague/Thatcher ones around 2001 with the caption Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid.
I think it's just funny to see this from a party that has no hope in getting into government outside of a coalition.
