I am expecting the worst with the election coming. I have heard of a move to NY Style SAFE act restrictions. What happens to the legality of 15 round Mags in the event they make the illegal? What has happened in NY for the folks there? Were they suddenly felons? Are they grandfathered in?

You can expect a brief grace period to destroy or remove any newly illegal weapons and magazines before their possession becomes a crime.
N.Y. wasn't grandfathered in.
Who knows? They could make us felons overnight, there could be a grace period, they could grandfather certain things.... we're speculating about laws that haven't been passed yet, by officials who haven't been elected yet. It's a crap shoot. I'm assuming that I'll have to find a nice storage place in eastern PA soon.
Here's the details from the last time this was passed(it was then vetoed)
Requires any individual who owns a firearm or magazine with a 15 round capacity to perform 1 of the following actions within 180 days from the effective date of this bill (Sec. 4):
They have another thing coming if they think I'll destroy something I worked hard and paid for.
NY banned mags that hold more than 10 rounds unless they were permanently modified. They tried to mandate 7 rounds but that got shot down. Now its a felony if you get caught with a mag holding more than 10, i cant even count on one hand how many people have actually gotten in trouble for any SAFE act violation stuff. Its usually some dickhead that gets pulled over drunk driving or beating his dog that gets searched and seized. Good news is theres some other states that would buy your castrated mags like Maryland and california :)
Remember when we were all in that boat together? The time when it capsized and it just So happened that all of our banned weapons and accessories couldn't be saved? It was such a tragic day...
More than likely they're just going to make us felons overnight "for the children".
