I have just realised that WoT is sucking joy out of my life.

I know there has been tons of salt latley but I've never been one to care to much about that. I mostly play 8-10 and I never really cared for premium tanks. I buy premium account though monthly because well without it 8-10 gets pretty hard. I've tried ranked, not a fan. But overall the attitudes of people playing. The premium tanks and ammo. The total noobs in a T8 in a premium tank doing wierd stuff. The very real pay to win that's happening right now. For the first time in five years. I don't want to log in anymore? Is anyone else in the same boat?

TL;DR I can't force myself to log in any more. It's sucking the joy out of me.

Dude it's just a game. If you don't enjoy it anymore do something else.

Ya you're right. It's just sad ya know. Really enjoyed sitting down every night and playing a few quick matches. Can't seem to do it anymore.

Some quick tips that may (or may not) improve your mindset towards the game:

  • Find platoon mates to play, talk and joke around with
  • Turn off all that statistics crap if you feel pressurized by it. Its just some meaningless numbers and no one really cares for your winrate or your wn8.
  • Allow yourself from time to time to try some "awesome" shit. Go for those "watch this.." moments like a dive attack over the cliff on Overlord and share it.
  • Try to remember that the others players are (mostly) real human beeings too and have very different motivations to play. I know for a fact that there are a lot of elderly guys playing that just want to drive around. Not everyone is competitive in this game. One might be drunk, another one might have a bad day, and the next maybe distracted by a phone call or what have you.
  • Break out of the monotony of tech line grinding and find tanks that you really enjoy and play those for a while, even if you don't "progress" anymore in them.

This is what (kinda) works for me. Even tho i have to admit, i get frustrated at this game as well more often than not :)

All good advice. I've also had periods in which the game no longer seemed like fun. My number one tip in those instances is stop playing the game until it sounds like fun again. Then incorporate the recommendations above.

Solid advice thank you.

Sad thing is that this game will not improve until WG starts losing sales. They started out great then after so many players invested time and money started altering tanks, tanks lines and making the game pay to win.

I think most of need a permanent break until they fix what is broken.

gollum8it•

Your probably going to get downvoted because your correct.

1
Average_JoeGamer•

I get downvoted all the time because people can't handle the truth, they want to kiss WG's ass every time one of their own posts something on Reddit or I bitch about what makes the game pay to win.

The majority of players feel the same way but most of them use the WOT forums instead of Reddit.

Most of the players on Reddit are pro pay to win because they like to pad their stats or feel good about themselves because they press 2.

I wish half the regular players would boycott the game for months to teach WG a lesson. I hate I have so much time and money invested in the game but I am almost at the point of giving up and moving on to something else.

Premium rounds are what I have the biggest problem with.

Guzuzu_xDWhines about T-34-3 all time•

I always felt in this subreddit people would downvote when you wouldn't agree to stuff like "MM is bad" "Gold ammo isn't healthy" and such.

I've never seen really people downvote someone because he's not defending WG.

Not since 9.18; the circlejerk goes around

1
gollum8it•

I feel pretty much the same as you. But im past the point. :)

1
Trousier_Trout•

I agree with op. The sheer lack of competition by either War Thunder or AW has kept me in the game. The T8 prems that are the only top tier you get on team and they drive around smashing building or die instantly.

I tried PUBG. It's fun but not a tank game. Check it out. It was as addictive as WoT was when I started.

5
Builds_Fried Green Tomato•

It's been pretty much the same for me since I got bored spamming the new 9.18 lights. Tier 8 and up are completely broken right now. Partly by the new MM, partly by superheavies, partly by pay-to-win. The only time I log in anymore is when I do so specifically to platoon with a friend who is more invested in the game.

Take a break. Your sanity will thank you. A lot of others are doing so as well. I got into League of Legends. It's not tanks, but it is tactical, and a ton of fun.

NA server population is down roughly 10% since 9.18 hit. It's been long enough to call it as a sustained drop-off, not just a momentary blip in the data.

bigcheesematt•

just take a break and play somthing else. your account will be waiting for you.

I kinda went through the same issue several months ago, WoT began feeling like a second job, I wanted to become a better player, installed a modpack, xvm etc and simply got frustrated out of my mind when, even after doing everything right in a match, doing tons of damage and wiping half the enemy team my tomato teammates still manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. I became afraid of seeing my winrate drop even a single 0,01% and had to make good every lost match. At one point I dreaded logging in.... Untill I simply figured that I needed to start playing for fun again, I ditched XVM, the mods and simply played the tanks I like and focused every match on simply dealing more damage than my tank is worth in HP, getting 1-2 kills if possible. In that way I feel as if I did 'my part' and if it turns out to be a loss I'm mostly not to blame. I also bought back several tanks I liked alot grinding up the tiers and focus myself on marking them with barrel rings. And trust me it's alot more fun than trying to 'improve'. Funny thing is my winrate dus still go up and down like a heartbeat graph but my average damage and K/D has been on the rise steadily and I take pride and joy in that fact.

TL;DR : focus and frustrate less on meta, teammates, p2w. Focus on your own fun

I had a very similiar experience while playing starcraft2. In that game people define themselves over their ladder ranks. "i am a diamond player", "gold player here", etc. pp.

The community is so centered around about this "improving" factor, its insane. You can buy coaching lessons from pro players, play special trainermaps, memorize build orders and every day threads on the sc2-subreddit popped up that were like "look at me, i just got promoted from gold to platinum league!!1".

I got caught in this improvement-mindset and decided for myself that i really want to get into the masters-ranks which are the top 2% of the entire player base.

Everytime i queued for a game i was anxious, hoping for an "easy" opponent and when i lost, i had to make up that loss to compensate for the setback in my improvement. It was just stressful. The games itself were just monotonous because i always played the way that was considered "most op" in the current meta.

At some point i even felt like i should only play the game if i was in top focused shape in order not to risk any unnecessary losses. Every game felt more like taking an exam or something and in starcraft, if you lose there is no one else to blame but yourself. If you lose, you messed up.

Long story short, i eventually stopped playing the game alltogether because it was zero fun and 100% performance pressure.

After some months of not even touching the game i asked myself "What happend? I once really liked that game" and i figured that it was this "improvement" bullshit that destroyed the game for me.

You know I think you're on to something here. Some of the most fun I have ever had have been on games that are totally mindless fun, Fire up the Wii U have some pals over a few beers do some mario cart or some other mindless garbage. No pressure Just fun ya know.

I think MMO's are starting to turn into a second job. Hell eve has been a second job for me forever. I played WoT because it was mindless fun for me. It's getting to competitive I think. People screaming about tomatoes and noobs. Freaking out in chat for some weird reason. Messaging you after a game and swearing up and down that your cheating. I don't use XVM, I did for about a week but it was too depressing. I've seen guys actually yolo or kill themselves because they didn't like the % to win on it. What the hell man.

Why can't we all play to have fun. I mean you think you're going to be in the grand finals next year. Probably not. You going to put your WN8 on your resume? Not likely. Not to mention the guys that actually reroll to get better stats? Why? Whats your endgame? You think anyone is sitting around impressed by how good you think you are? Farming statts?

Now with the pay to win that WoT has turned into, guys are pouring real hard earned money into the game just to have better stats. Is that skill though? IDK, Time to walk away for awhile, Maybe for good. I'm not going to pay some russian real dollars to tell me I'm good at something. That's insanity.

Well unless it was at Hockey. But I'd just hire a Canadian at that point.

OrigHellionOP•

The last match I played I had 4 kills and 5400 damage in my 704, some defender with under 1000 games was screaming at me in chat that I was a noob. Than he came across the map. Shot me. Pushed me into a grille sideways. I think that was the end for me. I wasn't even mad about it. Thats when I realized there is just no fun in WoT anymore.

MagiKarp9•

tomato's gonna tomate, I've seen this beheaviour as well, but remember that such extremes aren't something you see every day or even every week. Yes a team that falls appart faster than a wet paper bag is simply a fact of life in WoT. But if you did the damage and kills like you describe you did you part...no need to be frustrated about that and tomato teammates who turn blue every now and often. tier VIII premium buying noobs are a thing in WoT since launch, hell I was one of them, grinded to tier V and bought an IS-6. I remember being an absolute noob in the first dozen of matches but now 24K battles later... I can relate to some noobness, everyone has to learn. Just don't let the 'rotten' tomato's get to you

2
try2tameEnjoying the T25/2 stock grind•

This, I was that is6 once too and many others were too. But I think since I put in money into this game I always tried to improve and am better for it now. I also meet said defenders and Chrysler now but I am much calmer about it. Just give them some time.

lepermadonna•

I don't get frustrated when I'm doing well. I get frustrated when I'm being an idiot (not good with heavy tanks), and get owned even in op tanks. The only playstyle I enjoy is the light /Cromwell playstyle but I want that t-55a so I'm torturing myself with heavies

racercowanraceercowan - all about that derp•

Just stop playing. There was a time in my life where WoT was just sucking up all my free time, making it harder to do work, and not even being fun in the meantime. So I stopped, and then a year later I came back and now actually enjoy the game. If you can't force yourself to login, then don't login, games are meant to be fun so go do something fun instead.

Edit: Also find a few tanks you like and keep them. Anytime you feel a grind getting to you or have just had an awful run of luck, break out the fun tank. Personally, I like the KV-1, KV-2, AT-2, M4 Sherman, and Pz. IV H as good stress relief tanks.

2
MicMan42mostly Warsheeps•

A bit late but:

There are the people that say that this and that is "just a game" but this is not true. WoT, for me, for 5 years, has been a hobby and not "just a game".

And I, after more than 20k games, found no longer any enjoyment in it. I didn't feel the need to improve and show the "world" how good I was. I didn't feel the drive to grind and try that new tank any more.

And because of that I suddenly noticed all the little annoying things that I took as a necessary evil before. The rampant RNG. The annoying maps. The suckage when you were low tier (again).

But this was all present when I enjoyed the game and cared for it a lot. I just did not mind it.

So I did what everyone should do. I let it go and searched a new hobby instead - World of Warships (yeh, bear with me).

I wish you good luck in your search for a new hobby and suggest that you get started immediately and NOT loiter on in oT in the vain hope that anything that WG can do will make it great for you again.

Forcing yourself to log in a game is first and most counter-intuitative to what games stand for.

You force yourself to wake up early to get to work, you force yourself to study extra to get higher grades, you force yourself to run extra mile because it is good.

but you do not force yourself to log in a game as it makes a game not a game but a duty or work in itself. why do we play games? to relax, to get away from daily work and tiredness and get some amusement.
