WoW Specializations in Hearthstone [COMPLETE]
Hi guys, a few days ago I posted a quick demonstration of how class specializations from World of Warcraft could be implemented in Hearthstone. It seemed to capture the community's imagination so I decided to complete the set. The completed album is here. -EDIT- Some cards have been changed since this was first posted.
Spell specializations are a concept directly from World of Warcraft where each class must select a specialization that determines their abilities. In Hearthstone, this could be implemented by just adding tags to spells. There should be no restrictions on mixing tags in one deck but there should be synergy cards added to encourage you to put in as many spells from one specialization as possible.
You all shared your ideas:
-
u/xerixkun mentioned that we already have the Potion spell tag. link.
-
u/Ender_Melons suggested a custom tag called "Ancient" and mentioned that we already have the Portal spell tag. link
-
u/vzombi3 suggested adding cards that get stronger based on the number of cards of the same spec in your hand. link. This could really tie the specialized decks together and give your opponent an idea of what to play around. Images based on this mechanic are available here.
-
u/nixalo created this thread where users suggested that these specializations are already visible in current meta decks like Freeze and Burn Mage and Pirate, Taunt and Control Warrior.
Last time 48% voted to say the idea was "interesting and fun", with the runners up being "too difficult to manage and implement" and "too confusing for new players", each receiving 18%. In that straw poll I allowed you to pick multiple options, which meant that negative answers could potentially carry 3 times the value of a positive answer. This time you can only pick one option.
Here is another strawpoll. Let us know what you think.
Some interesting points:
-
Shaman and Druid share Restoration.
-
Paladin and Warrior share Protection.
-
Paladin and Priest share Holy.
-
Druid has 4 specs in WoW, all others have 3.
-
Some spells cannot be categorized.
