Last photo of my brother, holding my 1 day old son. He talked about how he couldn't wait to be the cool Uncle. He OD'd two weeks later. Tears me up knowing that my son met him but will never know him.

Sorry, OP. I lost my brother from an OD too and knowing my kids wouldn't get to meet him was the thing that hit me the hardest.
Yeah, it sucks. And now everytime we celebrate my son's birthday, my brothers memorial is like a dark cloud on the horizon. Everytime my son reaches a milestone age, the same milestone is set for how long my brother has been gone. It's always a bittersweet 2 weeks for my mother.

You just made me have a really dark realization that I've somehow never come to before today. My dad and I have the same birthday. Someday, all of my birthdays thereafter are going to be very bittersweet affairs
Well, there's a terrible waste. Strapping young man, great pic.... this makes me both sad and pissed at the same time. and nobody knew he was using, or was it on prescription OD? too many using gone to soon. 'πΆππΎπππ·π
He was quite the lady-killer that's for sure. He'd been using off an on for years. The last time he relapsed, he took a family vehicle and swapped it for his drug of choice. My last conversation with him was via text message and it was very angry. Eats me up.
It wasn't your fault.
I understand, my son will never get to grow up knowing my brother either. Makes me teary just thinking about it. :( I'm sorry op. It truly sucks.
Sometimes I start to think about how crazy it is that such a huge part of my life will be completely unknown to my son. I feel you, hang in there.
Sorry for your loss. I am sure your brother was a cool uncle (even if he didn't get to prove it) during the time between your son's birth and his own passing. May he Rest In Peace.
Thanks for the kind words. He would have loved my boy now, I like to think it could have inspired him to turn things around.
Man, I'm so sorry. I never had siblings, but a friend I considered a brother was supposed to marry me and my wife... he didn't make it. My son never got to know him. I'm three years in and while I find myself mourning my friend and wishing he could be there with us, sometimes, I feel like he is. I wish you and your family all the best.
Jezus. My son and grandson. F'ing brutal. Miss him every day. The little guy is my life's saving joy.
I'm so sorry for your and your son's loss.
I'm very sorry. He looks like a nice young man.
