DC Reddit meetup for the 30+ crowd, Part 2, Revenge of Gen X
The original post was here.
Sorry for the long wait in between messages. I had some unexpected surgery, but I'm back up and around, and rather than wait any longer talking about it I decided to go ahead and schedule something, and we can move forward from there. So without further prevarication:
What? Meetup especially tailored to Redditors 30 years old and older.
Where? The Passenger The Passenger is aware that we are coming and has offered "a couple craft beers at $5, wings and tacos on the cheap and we'll have a couple discounted cocktails." I'll post the Friday Menu as soon as I receive it. Disclaimer: I've never been to The Passenger. It's got good reviews and has been noted by the press as "A place for a quieter drink for those tired of the loud nightlife". One of the things I'd like to do during the first get together is discuss future meetups, whether we'd like to have it at the same time/place or rotate around. If you like the idea, but have reservations about the time/location, please come and share your thoughts.
When? Friday 7/14 I'll be there at 6:00 PM. Feel free to show when you can, even if you can't make it until a little later. I'll make a thread on Friday with any updates and when the gathering is done, I'll say so there, so check Friday.
Now for a few questions that came up last time:
Q: Can I come? I'm not 30 yet.
A: Sure, anyone who wants to come is welcome. However, the idea is to have a night out that isn't necessarily the kind of night we all had in college. The plan isn't to barhop, and we're deliberately seeking quieter places. Drinks may be more expensive than at other places. If that sounds like your Jam, and you like hanging out with people who could technically be your parents, then come on out.
Q: Is this a meet(meat) market? Are couples welcome?
A: That's not the intention. Couples are absolutely welcome. Polycules, etc etc, whatever you are come on out.
Q: Friday nights aren't good for me.
A: That's not really a question, but I'll accept it. Yeah, I get that. Tell you what, come out this Friday and we'll talk about it. If everyone who comes out says "I wanna do it Saturday" then we can organize that. ON that topic, If we're going to make a regular thing of this, I'd love to have a co-host, please let me know if you're interested.
Q: Doesn't this subreddit already have a Happy Hour meetup?
A: Yes it does, and it's run brilliantly by u/Tg976 . Please see the link to the previous thread where I lay out my reasons for wanting to do a 30+ meetup. Long story short, it's hard to meet people when you're no longer college age. Especially people your own age. The current happy hour skews very young. When I went, I was the oldest person there by more than a decade and the next oldest person had just turned 30. The people there were extremely nice and welcoming, but we simply didn't have as much in common.
When I first posted this, there was a pretty good response, it was actually a bit surprising. Hopefully that will translate into a good turnout. Please RSVP if you can, so I can have some idea of how many to expect, and can warn The Passenger if it looks like there are going to be more than anticipated. Any other questions, ask away. Oh, and feel free to link in any other sub you think might be interested.
EDIT After some consideration, I will instead be there starting at 5. I'll hang out as long as I feel like people are still coming and someone is there.
