Problem with huawei watch 2 step counter?

I had to return my first watch due to battery issues. This one has a decent battery but the step counter seems broken. And that's one of the main things I need it for. It will work for a while (hours), then get 'stuck' and require me to reboot the watch. Do I need to return this one too? I am wearing a garmin as well, and it's working fine.
