[RANT] The wedding planning has only just begun, and my future mother-in-law is already driving me insane.

21 July UPDATE!!

I realize that I am most likely overreacting, but I would love to vent all of this before my fiancé comes home, so we can have a relaxing evening that does not include wedding stress.

Here we go.

So, being the teacher that I am, I decided to create a Google forms link to begin collecting addresses as soon as we were engaged. We had a majority of our guest addresses within a few days, and it was so easy to do. We felt great about it, and we hadn’t really checked the spreadsheet since. I received a text this afternoon from FMIL asking me to send her the spreadsheet so she could see if everyone had filled it out. Weird, but this is the same woman who wanted to know the full names of my bridal party even though she doesn’t know any of them. I’m not willing to fork over the access to my precious spreadsheet, so I opened it up with the idea of just sending her screenshots because I assumed she was just looking for grandparent names, etc. Well, I guess my fiancé’s mother saved the aforementioned link, and was distributing it at will without our knowledge.

This entire process, I have tried to be the cool, calm, and collected bride. I get stressed very easily, and I truly want to enjoy this experience. I am just going with the flow of wedding planning. In any other circumstance, I wouldn’t be so upset about this. I am sure she is coming from a good place. She is simply excited that her only son is getting married. However, our venue has already been booked, and we are already the largest wedding they have ever hosted. The previous record for them was 170 people, and we are pushing it at around 210-230 of close friends and our huge families.

Anyways, she was giving this link out willy-nilly without saying a word to us for a while, as far as I can tell. She managed to add 100 people to our list! Not 5, not 10, but 100!!! Our guest list has just skyrocketed to over 300 people! Not okay! When confronted, she said that she was “pretty sure” that most of them wouldn’t even come.

So why did you contact them…?

I don’t even recognize any of the names! We already covered all family bases, so I am confident that these are just random work friends of hers.

Now, I know what you are thinking – “so what? It’s not like you have to send invitations to these people.” Oh boy, do I understand your logic here. Truly, I do, but now I’m going to look like the jerk who didn’t send them anything. Even if she is confident that these random people won’t show up, I cannot risk it with our venue. If even 10 of them showed up, we would no longer have the right number of tables for the reception, and I am definitely not willing to fork over the cash for that additional catering bill. 200+ people to feed is already a big enough ticket for my liking!

WOOH

Okay. I feel better.

TL;DR – Future mother-in-law adds 100 guests to our list without telling us. I proceed to have my own personal conniption.
