Looking for something similar to Nest Alexander Signature medium
My boyfriend and I are upgrading to a queen on a strict budget of $600 and under. We're both side sleepers and ~350lbs combined.
We went to Nest to try out the Love + Sleep, but while we were there we fell in love with the Alexander Signature in medium. Unfortunately we just can't afford it right now, and weren't big fans of the Love + Sleep (too bouncy).
I'm wondering if anyone can point me towards something similar to the Alexander medium, but for a lower price point? I know we won't be getting the same quality, but it is what it is.
Thanks so much everyone! I'm a first-time mattress buyer so any advice would be helpful.

First of all, combined weight of two or more sleepers is irrelevant. What is needed to determine durability (and in some cases, firmness) is the weight of each individual person on the mattress. Unless, of course, you sleep on top of each other all night in which case combined weight may be relevant :-)
Second, $600 for a queen is not going to get you a durable mattress, unless you build it yourself from foam layers and cut some corners. You need to go up to about $750 or $800 for a queen mattress that is of good quality and will last 5 or 10 years. Below that price, you are likely to get a mattress that will sag and soften in a few years or even one year.
My advice is that I do not think it makes sense to try to save $150 or $200 by getting a low-quality mattress that will not last.
Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately when I said strict budget, I meant it. $600 is already a real stretch for us and is the maximum we can manage right now. I know we're sacrificing quality and longevity but like I said - it is what it is.
Our individual weights are 140 and ~210, does that help? Do you have a recommendation?
I still do not understand. If you are "upgrading" then you already have a mattress and you should be able to save a little longer to get a decent new mattress.
If you are looking to save money, why buy a queen-size? A full-size would cost less.
Like I said before, to get a decent queen size mattress for under $600 you have to build it yourself and cut some corners. For example, you could get a 6-in thick polyfoam base for $219 + shipping here:
https://diymattress.net/products/foam-base-core-certipur-us?variant=30901531788
And then add a 3-in thick 5.3-pcf density memory foam topper for $289 + shipping here:
http://www.foamorder.com/toppers/memory-foam-pad.html
And then a cover for $58 here:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F4J49HM/
That all might come to a little over $600 after adding shipping. You could save more by getting a 3-in thick 5-pcf density memory foam topper here:
https://www.mattresstopper.com/product/5-lb-memory-foam-topper/
Anyway, as I said, you would be cutting corners a little since a person over 200 pounds should have polyfoam with a minimum 2-pcf density and memory foam with a minimum 5-pcf density. But the polyfoam base I mentioned first only has 1.9-pcf density. You could get one with a higher density but at that price the only one I know of is quite firm:
https://www.foamexpress1.com/Conventional_Mattresses.php
The 6-in thick "Luxury Foam" queen-size slab is $196 + shipping, and the density is a solid 2.6-pcf, but the firmness is 44-54 ILD which is going to be quite firm even for a support base. The "Premium Foam" is a much nicer 32-38 ILD firmness, but it costs $243 + shipping which would put you over budget. I guess you could go with the Premium foam, the mattresstopper.com memory foam, and the cover and come in below $600.
Thanks so much for such a detailed answer! I'll definitely discuss with him to see if this is the route we want to take. At the very least it helps me know what to look for in ready-made mattresses.
Our current mattress is a 10+ year old full spring mattress. Neither of us are small people (bf is 6'4" to boot) and it's extremely cramped on top of being worn-out. That's why we're eager to get something bigger ASAP, even if it's not perfect. I was just hoping for something to get us through the next couple years until we can afford to invest in something better.
Thanks again for your help, it's much appreciated :)
What would you suggest in the 750-800 range that's medium-firm memory foam?
