counterculture/Alternative spaces in the triangle?

Hey yall, I've lived in the Triangle my whole life so I wouldn't be surprised if I already know everything I'm seeking but here goes:

You guys know where I can find some good, weird shit? I love Arcana and the Pinhook and the Nightlight. I've been to the Maywood a few times, more back when it was Volume 11. I used to hang out at the Brewery too.

Are you familiar with Little Green Pig? Tonight they put on a Tom Waits cabaret at Mystery Brewing in Hillsborough. They'll do another Tom Waits cabaret next month at Arcana too. They're the coolest, weirdest theatre group I've had the pleasure of watching. In September, their new show, "Yes to Nothing," a story about an all-female punk group will be performing at the Pinhook, Nightlight, and I forget the other place. Here's some more fun links relating to them. A few more.

I've been planning on going to the Tom Waits Cabaret but I'm not familiar with the group but OH MAN I love this

Anything at Monkey Bottom Collective. Different groups use their space but I've seen everything from shibari rope suspension classes to healing water bowl ceremonies to Argentinian tango lessons.

Also, Legends in Raleigh.

I mean, it depends on what you mean by "counterculture"--there's been a lot of situationist-y kinds of references (weird, quasi-but-not-really-political, old "avant-garde-"but-not-contemporarily-avant-garde)

So, a certain amount of clarification would be cool. I mean, there's underground hip hop, raves, punk rock, sex clubs, folk, experimental art, experimental brewing, poetry, art, etc.

But like, one thing to note as a person who grew up in the Triangle, too. Counterculture around these parts has always been attached to groups of people, and not space. Your example of the Maywood's a good one: it depends on the night. Or King's, right? Old King's had a ton of nights that had great shows that were "counter culture." Now that they book larger acts in the new space...not so much.

Yeah, I guess so -- I meant all of that, kinda. I've been around here for so long and been to so many different shows and a part of so many different 'scenes' that I guess I just meant "not another fucking normie-ass IPA or cocktail bar"

But for real: I meant spaces like the Nightlight and Arcana that are always weird, every night that they're open, and not like the Cat's Cradle or new King's where it's dependent on the act. Zog's comes to mind, too.

I once watched a shitty two women play at The Shed. They were advertising some type of dance lesson afterwards. It might've been something like, dancing with umbrellas, or dancing on bicycles. I don't know if you can get weirder than that.
