Has anyone heard what Hz the Xbox One X will put out?

I know the Xbox One and One S are capped at 60Hz but I have not seen anything about the X. I'm looking to buy a computer monitor for my future X and I don't want to over purchase on specs if I can't use it.

It will probably max out at 60Hz.

There's no reason to invest in a monitor with over 60Hz just for the XB1X. Even if you can get more frames than 60Hz, it's best to essentially have it tied to a "VSYNC" setting of 60 so you don't have as much fluctuation.

Makes sense, thank you. Just trying to get a nice setup for gaming for once, I appreciate the help.

So sounds like as far as console gaming in this generation goes I should be "future-proof" for awhile with a 4k, 60Hz monitor?

Is there any advantage on console visually of having 144Hz?

Not unless you're going to be buying a gaming computer :)

The Xbox One X is going to be designed to be put in living-rooms, and the vast majority of TV's top out at 60hz, so I wouldn't expect to see any games support higher refresh rates. Despite the fact that you can hook it up to a PC monitor.

4k is a pretty demanding benchmark, which even the Xbox One X is struggling to meet on more demanding games. You're lucky to get over 30fps at native 4k on the system, so asking for a greater refresh than 60hz is unrealistic. It would be nice to be able to play older games at higher refresh rates, but that's just not really possible on consoles - and each game would have to have support for the higher frame-rates patched in, which nobody is really going to bother doing on a living room box (which again, most people's TVs cap them at 60). Further, some games (like TES:V Skyrim) have engine limitations which prevent them from going over 60fps. You can, of course, on the PC - but it's not recommended since it introduces some severe physics bugs which make the game unplayable.

If your goal with the monitor is just to have a cheap 4k display (which is not a bad idea, I used my PC monitor on the 360 for a cheap HDTV back in 2006 - and had been using PC monitors for console gaming since the Dreamcast allowed VGA output), then 60hz refresh will be fine. If you want to use the monitor in the future for PC gaming, you might want to look for 144hz.
