Lambeau is sacred. If you ever get the chance to go, do it

Inspired by the post below, I thought it might be worthwhile to discuss Lambeau itself. I was disturbed the amount of people in that thread who had either been to a game and hated it or never been to a game and never planned on going.

As Packers fans, you do not have those options. Lambeau is a sacred destination. It's a pilgrimage. While I agree that there are some valid points, going to Lambeau is not something you will regret. This includes you, opposing fans. Now I'm not saying it's something that needs to be done every week or even regularly, but it is an amazing experience that every Packers fan should have.

  1. "The Hassle". Going to any live sporting event will have some hassle. Most of us don't live in Green Bay. Visiting probably requires driving or flying, but that makes the entire weekend a Packers focused weekend. Take a shuttle from Milwaukee or Appleton. Spend the hours pregame drinking, eating, and hanging out with a group of happy people wearing green and gold. I cannot describe how much better this is than taking regular crowded public transit to a game.
  2. "Cost". There is no mitigating this. Packers games are too expensive. Couple that with travel and lodging costs, and it's prohibitive for a lot of people. But in my opinion, the cost is worth it, at least once to see the stadium and be a part of gameday.
  3. "The gameday experience is better at home." Eh, in some ways. It's nice being able to wake up and throw any game you want onto the screen, have cheaper beers, grill at home, and eat 5lbs of buffalo chicken dip. But that's not a real gameday experience. First, you can pregame with your own beers and grill out. Tailgating is a Wisconsin religion. You don't need to spend a thousand dollars at the stadium. Second, there is no substitute for the Lambeau atmosphere. Seeing the Packers in person is a religious experience. Hearing the crowd erupt when Rodgers throws a bomb is amazing. Not to mention there is the stadium tour and the hall of fame tour that any self respecting Packers fan will want to do.
  4. "The viewing experience is better at home" In some ways, yes. You can't flip between games, and ref calls can be hard to decipher. Sometimes it's hard to know exactly what is going on, but as far as any NFL stadium goes, Lambeau has some of the best views all around. There are no bad seats.
