One weird trick....Carfax hates him.

Driving to work this morning in my 03 9-3 and I get a traction control failure.

Followed by a stability control failure.

Followed by my speedometer freaking out.

Followed by by ABS light and Brake! Light flashing on and off intermittently.

Followed by my speedometer going to zero.

Followed by my odometer freezing and no longer counting miles traveled. (Fine by me!)

Restarted my car after work and all the errors are cleared and the odometer is working again, but the mileage from this morning is gone forever.

At first I was thinking an alternator or battery issue, but now I'm thinking wheel speed sensor. Anyone else have any ideas?

If everything else worked fine (I.e the car didn't die) then I'd put my money on one of your wheel speed sensors. Might be able to get a code with a diagnostic tool, at least if it's a Tech 2

Edit: Specifically the rear left sensor (front left if it's a diesel). According to WIS that's where it gets the speed reading, and since you lost your speedometer that would be the place to look.

Thanks, I'll start with the left rear when I get home.

I had a traction/stability control failure message show up and some other intermittent issues (locks, sunroof, Windows) and I bought a new battery and they all disappeared. I'd get the battery checked before you jump to anything drastic.

batt voltage problem. how old is the car battery?

I'm not sure about the newer models, but a lot of cars, especially Euro cars, that's symptoms of an ABS module failure. You can buy remanufactured ones or send yours in to get repaired or just spring for a new one. On my old Volvo it was a pretty easy part to take off. I've heard of the same issues on Saabs and BMWs. Often it comes and goes and it's caused by a broken solder on the ABS module circuit board.

And you'll want to make sure initially that your battery and terminal connections are okay. Just check to make sure there's not a mountain of corrosion at the terminals or anything. That can cause all sorts of issues at it's free to check and fix.

This happened to me with a bad ECU; especially with the odometer thing.

Ive been driving on a Stability control Failure for a year and a half or so now, it was intermitten for the first month but now its 100% all the time. Sadly theres no mechanics I trust here, but I literally have almost zero other issues, and dont think anything related since they occured separately.

like every 5th or 6th fill up, she struggles to start like shes not getting fuel for a few turn overs, then it'll go and feel sloppy for a sec or two (rpm warbles) then be perfectly fine. My theory is that the evap recovery valve (actual name escapes me, it recirculates fuel vapors or something similar) gets stuck open, and when I fill up it "floods" through that. I have a code reader and ONE time I got a CEL the code was listed somewhere with a mention of that valve.

Exact same thing happenned to me. ABS module. There's a guy that remanufactures them in US for like $100. Just take it off and send it to him, drive without abs/speedo with all the lights on for a week. Put it back in and all works well.
