My 12 year old had a pedal fall out. About 2/3 of the right crank arm hole is stripped. I’m not a bike mechanic expert just a dad trying to keep him on the trail.

Bottom bracket is an old BB30. Crankset is a Sram 1x 34t.

Also this is a size small bike that’s he’s definitely going to outgrow sooner than later. I do want to fix it, but I’m inclined to more frugal options.

Here’s what I’ve considered.

  • Loctite the pedal to the remaining 4 threads and see how far that takes us.
  • Try and track down a modest 30mm spindle crankset. Haven’t been having luck though.
  • Try to helicoil the existing arm.
  • get an entry level SRAM DUB crankset with bottom bracket. I think this should be comp

I hate end-of-season seed chasing trying to game the system to get the matchup you want. Anything that leads to being incentivized to purposely lose games hurts the sport.

So what about a crazy idea:

First seed gets to pick their round 1 matchup.

Then second seed and so on down the line. Any seed who hasn't been selected yet gets to pick out of whoever is remaining.

Yes, that will most likely mean that 1 picks 8, 2 picks 7, etc. But not always. And maybe 1 wants to arrange the brackets to hopefully not face a tough opponent until the conference championships. That's their right as the regular season winner.

2nd and on round proceed as the bracket would indicate.

It also means that if y

I have an interesting data set of player-to-player trades in a digital game. Trades can be many-for-many.

I'd like to ingest these trades and calculate weights for each item such that the trades on a whole are balanced. In other words, I want player behavior to reveal the item weights to me.

I feel like I'm close, but I'm not sure how to fit a model on the items to calculate the weights/coefficients.

In an ideal world, each trade would get a score by summing the weights of the items involved (positive for one side of the trade, negative for the other side). Then the model would fit weights to minimize the sum of the squares of the individual trade scores.

One nuance is that the weights n

I'm trying to work out a very basic model.

  • Each month I have monthly active users, which include this month's signups and last month's MAUs x their survival rate (1-decay rate, I guess)
  • Each month I get signups expressed as a percentage of last month's MAUs.

So, for example, if I start month 1 with 1,000 signups and 1,000 MAUs and have an organic signup rate of .2 and a MAU survival rate of .6 then month 2 will have 200 signups and 800 MAUs (200 from the new signups + 600 surviving from last month).

If I drag that down 24 months in a spreadsheet I get 1,994 signups and 4,976 user-months from that initial 1,000 user cohort.

That 4,976 number is what I'm trying to get in a function. I'
