Educator Instructions - 2017
#EDUCATOR INSTRUCTIONS
Register to become an approved educator and get matched with a donor by following these steps as precisely as possible.
#Step 0

We ask that educators who are 'actually in need' apply for support. This is a loose requirement but please understand that donors may not be as plentiful as educators and, as a collective community, we should try to spread the supplies to those who need it. Requested supplies must be reasonable (no iPads or anything of the sort).

Ensure that your reddit account is older than 3 months and has at least 25 overall karma. ---- [Exceptions will be made for the first year. Please write in the comments of the form of Step 1 of your case of what qualifies you as a redditor (i.e. your favorite subs, favorite posts in the past, etc.) if you do not meet the above requirements. Exceptions should be pretty loose for the first year. See why "being a redditor" is important here.

Understand that participating in this exchange will require giving your donor either your home address or your school address (if allowed by your school) to a redditor. I'm being told this is not true for Amazon Wishlists. Only first name, last initial, city and state are given for Wishlists, so if you'd rather have this option, please indicate so in the following Google form
#Step 1
Fill out this form with required information.
#Step 2
Send an e-mail using your educator e-mail account (.edu, .schoolname.org, etc.) to UR.TeacherExchange@gmail.com titled:
- REDDIT USERNAME - Educator Approval Documents
The following 2 items are required to be sent in the e-mail:
- Copy of Teacher ID
- Link to school website with reference to your name.
Feel free to omit any sensitive information, but understand that if the document is too doctored, your approval may be rejected.
Note: No personal information will be shared with third parties without explicit permission from you.
Note 2: If, for whatever reason, the 2 items above are not accessible or available, please send any combination of documents (with sensitive documents omitted) that would prove you work at the school that you are listing. This could include: a forwarded e-mail from the school of your job offer, your teacher certificate, pictures of your classroom with you in it as well as your reddit username and date handwritten, etc.
If you cannot supply the 2 items above, please send any and all evidence that could convince me that you are indeed an educator.
#Step 3
Wait for approval and then a subsequent match. Approval and matching will be sent through reddit message from the moderators.
Matches should occur every weekend in which there are a new batch of signed-up and verified educators (5-10 new educators).
#Step 4
Communicate with your donor(s) on a SPECIFIC list of school supplies. A Google Sheet accessible by your donor is recommended. Item, quantity, and any specifications should be detailed. An Amazon Wishlist can also be used.
Donors have a 2 week shipping deadline. If this deadline is not met, please contact the moderators to get their involvement / a possible rematch.
#STEP 5
After you receive your supplies:
- Send a message to the moderators stating your exchange was successful.
- Post a picture to r/teacherexchange showing your appreciation to your donor. Feel free to write a comment of appreciation in that post's comment thread.
This is a required step within 2 weeks of receiving your supplies. Failure to do so will result in removal from participation in the future.
