[No Spoilers] Going to the Live Show? Good food, drink and parking await..

News

I live in downtown Indy and so excited to go to the show tomorrow and see all your smiling Critter faces!

First, some questions! I couldn't get GenCon passes before they sold out so I'm forever grateful the live show is offsite again this year. But since it's at a different location from last year I have some general venue questions for G&S/Legendary:

Parking!
######PAY ATTENTION TO SIGNS.
There are spots of free parking spattered around the area but most that look free are PERMIT ONLY for accompanying apartments/housing. Parking for us who live downtown is precious and we don't hesitate to call the tow trucks if a car doesn't have a permit.

Look at this handy map I made!

  • Red box is where the live show is
  • There are meters all over the place around the theater and you have will have to pay up to 9 p.m. After that you're fine.
  • The pink box is the lot for Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ. They usually have $5 parking for events at The Murat/Old National Centre. I called them today and the lady said she's unsure if someone will be out there tomorrow. If not, she did say people can park there for free as long as you don't leave your car overnight. I explained her that there is no set cut off time for the show so she's letting whoever know that cars may be there past midnight. I'll call them again tomorrow morning to confirm again and will update this post if their status changes. EDIT 3: I CALLED THE CHURCH AGAIN AND IT WILL BE CHEAPER PAID PARKING STARTING AT 4 P.M. Their number is (317)639-5411 if you have any questions. Address is 603 N New Jersey St Indianapolis, Indiana
  • Green boxes are paid lots
  • Yellow lines are free parallel spots (may fill up quickly because of the weekend)

Pacers Bike Share
If you're at GenCon or another area of downtown and don't want to walk or take a Lyft/Uber, check out a bike a get to the show a little quicker! You can buy a 24hr pass and ride a bike between each station. Take the route along the Indianapolis Cultural Trail and you can go right from the convention center to Old National Centre.

FOOD n' DRINKS!
I could list everything along Mass Ave but here are some highlights. Let me know if you have questions about any particular spot. This is my neighborhood so I know it well. Indiana is assbackward with it's liquor laws so if you look up a place, pay attention to their hours. Some spots are open till 2 a.m. some close at freakin' 11 p.m. on Friday.

  • Petra Cafe - new-ish Mediterranean/Greek/Kebab spot. Great prices for the portion size you get, relatively quick carry out, open late (post live show snack) and honestly my favorite fries recently
  • Bru Burger - Great burgers but insanely popular so wait times for a table can be 45 mins+ on Friday evenings/the weekend.
  • Bazbeaux Pizza - Local place with eclectic thin crust style pizza. Carry-out option too
  • Goodfellas Pizzeria - Just opened in March, NY style pizza by the slice, calzones n' such and carry-out made to order whole pies
  • Fat Dan's Deli - Take the name to heart :) Big, delicious sammiches n' burgers, GREAT dry rubbed wings (get the honey mustard dipping sauce), local beer and Chicago Cubs fans! Also can be "slow" service wise if you want to sit there but they have carry-out. Would not recommend getting fries for carry-out, they don't hold their crispness well.
  • Yats - Only open till 9. Good prices. My favorite comfort food in the neighborhood. Stew-like Cajun/creole dishes over rice with some awesome garlic bread. Carry-out travels well. Small local beer and wine options. Menu changes daily but LOOK AT THE SAUCE STAND. The Cajun Garlic Power enhances every dish.
  • Ralston's DraftHouse - Open late. Local beers galore (plus full bar) and a tasty menu. Have to wait for table. The BBQ pork frachos (crispy fries) is level 20, man. So good.
  • The Rathskeller - 32 oz German beers..nuff said! And the spiciest mustard I've ever had in my life
  • The Tap - EVEN MORE BEERS. Open late
  • Louie's Wine Dive - A smorgasbord of smushed grapey goodness. Kinda swanky.. Have to wait for a table and won't be open after the show though :(
  • St. Joseph's Brewery - Open till 1 a.m. Friday. My favorite local brewery (look for it on other drink menus downtown). Decent food but the setting inside a 18th century church is cool!

Alright I'm done! See you all tomorrow! I'll be the one in the U.S Navy hat with the "VECNA OR BUST" hitchhiker sign :P Will also have a cooler of cold waters for other line peoples!

Edit 1: There's a Subway and a grocery store very close as well!
