Gf just got fired

Ok so this is in Georgia. She works for a franchise and they usually put out schedules for the next week on Thursday. Someone was flying out to Europe and pushed their schedule ahead because of Irma.

This is where I think it gets very petty. She gets scheduled for morning shift (usually strictly night shift) on Friday after they make last minute changes. She's upset because the manager asked her to work mornings and then immediately said thanks without even hearing her response. So she switches with the person they have at night shift and that person then goes in and is told to immediately leave and get her there. They said if she doesn't show up she's fired. She said she's not coming in and they've made a schedule without her on it now.

Just need advice on how to handle this situation also sorry about formatting. I'm on a phone and also it's Sunday morning and I'm lazy.

She refused to come in and they fired her. That's a valid termination. She should file for unemployment and look for another job.

File for unemployment. They may or may not fight it. Worth a shot. Generally speaking a single instance of missing a scheduled shift does not rise to the level of misconduct.

She was voluntold to take the shift. It wasn't really a question, it was a heads up that the schedule was changing.

So yeah, they are allowed to fire her for that.

I've seen petty firings and ridiculous employers and this is not one of those situations. Employers get to dictate the schedule, not employees. The is a fundamental aspect of the vast majority of employment in the United States and elsewhere. Refusing to let employers do their job is a great way to get fired, as she found out. They may choose to forgive her. If not, she'll probably get unemployment, but it's not guaranteed.

It might now seem petty but I've worked their and I know what they're doing. But she's made her bed and prepared to lie in it
