Psybient Spotify Playlist?
Hi all,
Does this sub maintain a Spotify playlist? I generally like listening to the top albums from each month's release poll, but it can be a bit annoying searching for albums individually. It would be great if the top albums were curated into a single playlist on a continual basis. Thanks!

Well first of all I'm glad you find the monthly release polls useful. Even though I don't use Spotify, I will consider adding a playlist link to the monthly poll threads (I think my brother has a Spotify account I could use).
Since I'm not familiar with it, how likely is it that Spotify will have the most recent psybient releases? Like for example could you check and see if any of July's top voted releases are on there?:
Zymosis - Insight
Perpetual Loop - The Invisible You
Strange Substance - Microbes
ekaOlogik - Light Seeds
Nile - Nada
Santiago Nino - Cosmic Clearance
etc.
I was under the impression that psybient is still too niche of a genre for Spotify to have all the latest releases, but I'm welcome to surprises.
Hey timeisart. Spotify is really up-to-date with Psybient releases. You'll find most of the main new releases on there (by main I mean releases that aren't self-released or free-to-download).
The Perpetual Loop, ekaOlogik, Nile and Santiago Nino releases are on there with the others likely to follow (contracts need signing?).
You don't need to pay anything to get an account - just you'll have to listen to a 30 second ad every 30 mins. Streaming quality is up to ~320kbps. I really recommended it. The "Release Radar" playlist is fantastic - 30 new tracks available every Friday based on your listening preferences.
Sorry if I sound like a bit of a salesaman - I'm not - I'm just a big fan of the service. After a month of the free service I upgraded to Premium as it's so convenient.
A couple of really good playlists to get you started:
The Pulse of Psychill:

The Edge of Psychill:

A quick search for new Psybient shows this playlist also appears to have a lot of recent releases on:

Cheers! :)
Cheers TD, I'll check it out. I thought I remember looking into it years ago and there wasn't a free option at the time, maybe that was when they were just first getting established.
It does seem super convenient, almost the opposite of the near masochistic nature of tediously curating your own personal music library as I've done for a long time. I suspect streaming will win out over downloading in the end, but there is something about the personal touch of having your own library that I enjoy.
That's not to say they're mutually exclusive though so I'll still give it a try. As for OP's request, I guess I could just look for all the releases that received votes each month and add whatever they've got to a playlist.
Thank you for taking the time to curate the monthly release poll. It really helps keep everything organized! Linking a playlist to the monthly poll thread sounds like a brilliant idea.
As twisted_dragonfly mentioned, Spotify seems to have most (at least half) of the current psybient releases. It's also by far the most popular music streaming service. If a psybient monthly playlist is to be made, then I think it makes sense to do it on Spotify. Free accounts are available for those who don't want to pay, but IMO it's a great investment to get the premium version (irrespective of this playlist idea thing).
Cool well would you prefer a single 2017 playlist that gets continually added to every month or have separate playlists for each individual month? Or both?
I guess it depends on how you're listening: if you're just letting it shuffle through the playlist or if you're manually picking and choosing tracks to play. If you're shuffling and want to hear the newest music, then you probably wouldn't want music from several months ago mixed in with the newest stuff.
That's a good question. I think it makes the most sense I have a single playlist that's updated every month. That was I can just follow a single playlist. I won't have to follow a bunch of different playlists!
Ok boss, here's the 2017 playlist link.
This is based off the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners of the monthly polls, all of which can be seen at the 2017 Releases Table at Psybient.org that I also manage (click the Monthly Poll Rankings tab above the table then select 1st, 2nd or 3rd).
Spotify did surprise me with how much they had from the list of poll winners, but there's also a lot of good stuff missing, namely:
Keep in mind that what's on that Spotify playlist are just the poll winners, there is a vast amount of more music to be explored at the 2017 Releases Table.
