Longfall
Nine hundred and ninety nine miles of falling,
Yet the inadequacy remains appalling.
Perching myself so high
Is to set the stage for a climax
Preceded by arrogance and pride.
The clock ticks, I’ve paid my tax.
Turning midnight,
Wash my sin away with the tide
Of gravity, reciprocity in disguise.
One thousand miles of falling.
I fall beyond a light.
It reaches out, it’s my calling,
But auspicious it may be,
It’s insidious, out of sight.
Shun it away, hide all emotion.
Bury it in away
In the ocean
Of regrets.
One thousand and one miles of falling.
A light shines once more.
I can’t reach it, like it hides behind a door.
Is this the gore
Of my potential?
Or the floor
Of my descent?
I ponder, gazing of up that great white crescent.
How I’d love to hit the ground
Composed of my mistakes compound.
Alas, that peace grows farther.
How I’d yearn for that resounding splatter,
As my tower of glass begins to shatter.
I’m aware of my mistakes,
Lucid in my crimes,
My fall slows, it begins to reverse
Despite straying so far from the paradigms.
For those lights’ sakes
I must try
Just one more goddamn time.
