The Theatrical

The florid screen of entertainment

has taught me

that the realest faces are ornamented with colors,

powder packed, lashes lengthened, jewels coldly

draped across skin.

The truest feelings are written, never felt--

revealed by a clay mask, theatrical grin,

flattened heart, flourish of the wrist.

The falseness,

the hollow world of

costumes and characters

is perhaps the last warm coal

in reality's dying fire.
