Fire, Eart, and Flesh
Ignore the typo in the title...
Fire, Earth, and Flesh
There are too many paths to God.
Our minds are flooded with visions
Of what is to come after life.
The truth being: none truly know.
Are those just souls rewarded
Any better than those unjust?
The fear of damnation brings in
Soul after soul; each one searching
For scripture they cannot find here.
In search of the unknowable
These mortals breed the same chaos
They wish to avert once their clocks
Tick the eternal toll and stop.
And when the secondhand reaches
Midnight on that terminal day,
The living will return to dust,
The planets will burst and shatter,
And the great stars will cleanse it all
As everything collapses
To the center from whence it came.
All that once was, is forgotten.
Things of fire, earth, and flesh erased;
But once it was all there, it lived.
Not even the apocalypse
Can take away life's greatest feat:
The fact that once it took breath.
