Parts of a Whole

Who am I?

Watch me stand tall, presenting at the front of a room,
But crumble when an unknown number calls my name.
I am equal parts strong and steady,
Nervous, and afraid.

Listen to me exclaim that I can do anything
And the next moment whisper, “I can’t do anything right.”
I am equal parts optimistic fire,
And pessimistic light.

Being busy gives my life purpose
While never having time for myself leaves me dry.
I am equal parts overzealous,
Bitter, and contrived.

I call on adventures and explorations,
But the uncertainty of these journeys makes me gasp.
I am equal parts heroine,
And anxiety attacks.

So the question, “Who am I?”
Tumbles ‘round in my soul.
Am I really just truly
The parts of a whole?
