Hello! What I'm doing for my Costo- weigh in?!
I just found this subreddit and I'm so excited!!! Hello.
Back ground: I am a 38 year old massage therapist and business owner. The week before I had my first costo attack (I'm calling it that- don't judge) I was hiking in a smokey forest fire area of Montana and then flew many times and then hiked some more in Joshua Tree National Park. Leading up to it I was running 10Ks 2-3x a week, yoga daily and lifting 20lbs or less mostly upper body work because of what I do I try to keep my shoulders strong. When everything went to shit I thought I was dying.. Blah blah blah.. Here I am!
I've recently decided to stop giving a fuck about the pain and have launched myself back towards health because I took about a year off due to doctors telling me to rest, gained 15 lbs and I'm depressed.
So.. I've started Run/Walk intervals 3 miles, walk another 4 miles. I'm doing 10 minutes of yoga multiple times a day to not over do it. Taking luke warm salt baths, applying some gentle heat to my chest at night (I feel like this might be making it worse due to increasing inflammation) and doing some anti-inflammatory diet things.
This is my list. What would you add? Am I crazy? I need to start moving or else life will not be worth living. I can't be on the couch anymore.

Each and every person's costo is a little different, and is triggered by different movements and will heal in different ways. It's mostly trial and error and it seems like you're doing that right!
Just be patient and kind to yourself as you exercise. There will be ups and downs, just take it one day at a time. Find the balance between under-exertion and over-exertion. Forget about what you used to be able to do and work with the hand you've been dealt. One day, you'll find yourself back to where you were at (if that even matters), and you'll have way more knowledge about your mental and physical health.
Just to give you some hope, mine is almost fully healed and it took me 2 years of complete rest, and a very very gradual exercise regimen to get back to baseline.
All the best!
Thanks!!
