Weekly Vainglory 8 Discussion | October 21-22, 2017
Hello, and welcome to the nineteenth week of Vainglory 8 posts. Just to remind you, these eSport and Vainglory 8 discussion posts will be put up every Friday, replacing the weekly discussion, and will be taken down on Monday for the next weekly discussion. These posts will be an opportunity to catch up on last week’s results before the upcoming matches over the weekend as well as hopefully discuss the Vainglory 8 as it happens, updating you with the results as quickly as the moderator team can! As of now, the posts will only cover Europe and North America. This post in particular will lack regional hero statistics, but those will be back in the next post.
You can find relevant media concerning these matches below!
Of course, this will contain spoilers for the last week of Vainglory 8 matches, which you can find on YouTube here.

#Europe
#SK Gaming vs. Mousesports: SK Gaming Won
Alas, even though mousesports has had some small successes in weeks previous, SK Gaming is indisputably the strongest team in Europe at this point and it showed in this series as they took the win 2-0.
#Fnatic vs. Saltypotatoes: Saltypotatoes Won
While Fnatic was ahead in points and looked reasonably good coming into this series in comparison to Saltypotatoes, Saltypotatoes did have significant moments where they looked rather strong. Regardless, the series looked to be close coming in, and it would prove to be so as it progressed to a third game before Saltypotatoes were finally able to close it out for a win.
#Dynasty vs. Team Qlash: Dynasty Won
Team Qlash came into this series without a single point over three weeks of the fall season. To say that they have had weak performances is rather apt. In contrast, Dynasty has been a consistently middling team at worst, although their previous loss to mousesports was rather troubling, and were definitely the favorites coming in. Despite that expectation, Team Qlash managed to put up a fight and finally get a point on the board, winning a single match against Dynasty before finally giving way, potentially breathing some life into the team.
#SK Gaming vs. Calamity Reborn: SK Gaming Won
Calamity Reborn has struggled even more than Saltypotatoes, their fellow Challenger team, to find success in the European Vainglory 8, despite how strong their roster is mechanically. In sharp contrast, SK Gaming has had consistent success overall, tilting the matchup heavily into their favor. Indeed, the series would go as expected, with SK Gaming winning with a strong 2-0 performance.
#Semifinal: Saltypotatoes vs. SK Gaming: SK Gaming Won
For the second week in a row, Saltypotatoes has made it to the semifinals and looked to be a competitive European team while doing so. Whether that is enough to keep up with the best of the best, however, is doubtful. With vigor, SK Gaming took the series in force and dominated their opponent 2-0.
#Semifinal: G2 eSports vs. Dynasty: Dynasty Won
While Dynasty has certainly looked as good as G2 eSports in terms of in-game play in the past, their loss against mousesports was especially concerning for the team. Contrasting that, G2 eSports has only really consistently lost again SK Gaming, who are a tier above every other team at the moment. However, Dynasty would show up in top form for this match, taking the entire series by storm and winning 2-0.
#Third Place Series: Saltypotatoes vs. G2 eSports: Saltypotatoes Won
A matchup seen very recently in the favor of G2 eSports, the team had just come off of their frankly shaky series against Dynasty. Given the lack of confidence that must have ensued from that as well as Saltypotatoes’ continually inspiring performances, Saltypotatoes certainly had a chance coming into the series. Even more shocking than the loss to Dynasty, however, was the 2-0 of G2 eSports by Saltypotatoes, who looked excellent against the second best team by points in Europe.
#Finals: Dynasty vs. SK Gaming: SK Gaming
SK Gaming are the kings of Europe, that is clear to anyone. Given that, in spite of Dynasty’s potential for high level performance, there was no doubt coming in that SK Gaming would probably win, and win they did with, once again, although Dynasty managed to show up once again by taking the series to a third game and challenging SK Gaming’s place at the top of the food chain.

#North America
#TSM vs. Gankstars: TSM Won
Gankstars has struggled every week thus far, and this week would be no exception with likely the hardest matchup for them to face to even get points on the board. TSM were merciless in this series, winning out 2-0 in dominant form over their long time competitors.
#Hollywood Hammers vs. Cloud9: Cloud9 Won
Cloud9 was at the top of North America at the moment for points and strength. In sharp contrast, Hollywood Hammers had struggled to generate strong results, although they have seen limited success. However, limited success isn’t going to be enough to reliably topple the giants that are Cloud9, and the series would go as expected with Cloud9 winning 2-0.
#Tribe Gaming vs. Rogue: Rogue Won
Although Tribe had very strong live results, their seasonal play, as always, has left a bit to be desired. Rogue, however, has had an excellent record for a team that didn’t even manage to qualify for the Unified Live Championships about two months ago. With Tribe’s demonstrated success, that the series would be close was unquestionable, but Rogue eventually won out 2-1.
#Nova eSports vs. Tempo Storm: Nova eSports Won
With results just as poor as Gankstars, Tempo Storm desperately need points on the board, but no teams in North America are currently weak enough, besides possibly Gankstars, for them to contend with. Nova eSports defeated their opponents relatively cleanly, knocking them out 2-0.
#Semifinals: TSM vs. Cloud9: TSM Won
A matchup seen just a few weeks previously, Cloud9 beat TSM cleanly that time. However, with a bit of time having passed and TSM desperately wanting to recover from their rather shocking defeat at the hands of Nova eSports, the el classico matchup in North America would come once again. The series was surely in favor of Cloud9, of that one can brook no argument, given their excellent results in past weeks. However, TSM would show up that day in force, bringing the fight to Cloud9 and beating them 2-0 for the bounce-back.
#Semifinals: Nova eSports vs. Rogue: Rogue Won
A series seen literally the week before, and one in which Rogue were victorious, the expected results would certainly be the same. Rogue, despite taking a hit from Nova eSports in that the series went to a third match, took the win home in the end.
#Third Place Series: Cloud9 vs. Nova eSports: Nova eSports
With Nova eSports having been denied a spot in the week’s finals once again and Cloud9 having been trounced by opponents they had just recently defeated in fair form, it was hard to say coming in which team was more demoralized. Ultimately, Cloud9 looked to be falling apart a bit more, and, in a surprising turn of events, ended up ceding the third place win to Nova eSports who took the series 2-1.
#Finals: TSM vs. Rogue: TSM Won
Rogue have had inspiring performances as of late, showing up constantly during the autumn season and making a strong case for themselves as the third strongest team in North America, if not potentially better. TSM, however, looked rather poor before they came in this weekend and punished their opponents for ever doubting them. Given the bounce-back of TSM this weekend, however, one could certainly say the matchup was skewed towards TSM quite reasonably. Indeed, the series went as expected, surely to the disappointment of some fans, as TSM won out 2-0.
