I play against more Swarm/Spies in casual than in ranked.

Discussion

I'll preface this by saying that I play a game or two of casual after 2-3 losses in a row in ranked to prevent tilt and to try out fun techs. Today after a particularly tilting chain of losses I jumped into casual only to be greeted by 8 dagons, 5 spies and one guy playing a meme ST list, that's not an exaggeration either after the 3rd dagon I started to count. I play against more variety at 4500 than that. I really enjoy the competitive nature of this game, but it feels like the only place to play interesting decks anymore is Pro Ladder and that just feels wrong. I mostly typed this out to vent a little but I also want to see if others feel this kind of weird frustration towards the game.

I think casual is filled with high level players (including >4500 MMR) trying to quickly do their dailies. I mostly play casual and I've faced almost exclusively Dagon swarm lately with the occasional Restore SK.

marlyyPlease wait, Your Excellency. I'm falling behind.•

Well, i played consume to finish first daily right in time only to be beaten 4x in row against counterdecks that only do good vs monster. in this order: 2x st , 1x balista, 1x st.

Thats the exact opposite.

Btw after daily reset i saw dagon and sk...one could say the game dindt want me to finish my daily and gave me counters.

I mean, that's just how card games work, you always queue into your counter. I play bear SK mostly but the one day I switched to a Baron deck to fight the monsters, I queued almost entirely into spy NG.

I think higher MMR players are focusing on control and strong 3rd rounds.

It's making me miserable, because my deck is control, but doesn't have any insane strength. So the better players have stopped playing spam and started playing the long con. They put out just enough combos to keep the game going so you can't pass.

It's good strategy, but I'm feeling tilted and burned out.

(Edit: just to clarify, I made a deck to stop engines, not stop short power bursts, so hand buffing and the current discard deck are hard for me)

Man, I feel the same. All I'm coming across with my control spell deck is NR with witchhunters or god damn igni + scorch. Lost a bunch of MR and now I'm just going to play casual until the next update or the season resets.

Well, I feel like my deck can't do both- it can control engines, but can't pull off 12-15 points every turn. Since those decks have stopped trying to get tons and tons of points over time, my control does jack squat. They don't down a few power plays, then hit me with control. I'm sure I'm just piloting my deck wrong in some way, but I can't figure out how to beat this meta. I'll keep trying though.

Mine is just a slightly modded Eithne spell deck with dudu, zoltan, and marigold's hailstorm being the biggest changes. Winning almost every casual but yeh, ranked is rough for non-bran meta decks.

threep03k64You've talked enough.•

With regards to swarm I'm not surprised. The pro ladder stats (and most recent GwentUp report I think) seem to suggest monsters isn't exactly tier 1 right now. Other decks ate more powerful but are perhaps harder to play.

I find myself conceding every time I see NG and sometimes Dagon. I cannot be bothered to waste my time against those two in casual.

The net decking to starting to get out of hand. Been playing on Xbox for last few months but started up a new account over the weekend on PC. Haven't even unlocked ranked yet. Just went up against a level 6 (yes level 6 not even rank 6) who was playing a full swim bran discard deck. Restore, Gary, Cerys, wolf man - the whole works, no substitutions at all. Getting crazy when you can't even get away from the same tier 1 decks under level 10. No GG for you buddy.

Well, he has a point. Tier 1 decks probably shouldn't be in low leveled areas, so new players don't get stomped :/

hi_im_bearr I am sadness...•

I go to casual to test decks so I wish I could play against only the top meta decks, but I don't seem to match them at all, maybe 1 in 8 games. I'm at 4300 so maybe the 200mmr makes a big difference but I'm certainly not having the same experience

Nope. You're correct. Casual is basically ranked, but without MMR, and that's exactly why I avoid it. It contributes to the game being more and more stale.

The same thing happens to me. Ranked matches are much more diverse for me right now. In Casual I've actually run into the same loser playing a Swarm Dagon list like two or three times. I'm so bored of that matchup I usually just forfeit and don't send a GG (lol).

EscanbrytAs you command, Your Majesty.•

i sometimes just concede against these boring meta lists or sometimes annoy them back by roping every. single. fucking. turn.

i don't face as many brans, spies, swarms as you do though. maybe because i only played ranked to 3700.
